About the Position
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Data and Applications to join our IT leadership team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing our software and data development teams, ensuring the seamless execution of projects, adherence to best practices, and alignment with business objectives. This position demands a strategic thinker with a strong technical acumen, demonstrated ability to stay abreast of evolving technologies, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
What Youll Do
We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Director, Applications and Data to join our team, responsibilities include:
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of software engineers, data engineers, and other IT professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of data and application solutions, ensuring alignment with business requirements, architectural guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including business leaders, and project managers, to define project scope, objectives, and success criteria.
  • Drive the adoption of cloud-native technologies and Microsoft Azure services, leveraging the full potential of the Azure platform to optimize performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, SaaS providers, and consulting partners, overseeing the delivery of services and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and service level agreements.
  • Assist in reviewing vendors and conducting RFPs (Request for Proposals) to assist in vendor assessment and selection, ensuring alignment with business needs, technical requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Establish and maintain standards, policies, and procedures for software development, data management, and application lifecycle management, including SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) methodologies and documentation practices.
  • Champion a data-driven culture within the organization, promoting the use of data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, including generative AI, to leverage both structured and unstructured data sources to assist in business decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other IT leaders to define and implement a cohesive technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry trends.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering their professional growth and development through coaching, training, and performance management initiatives.

Oversee the application stack using Microsoft technologies tailored to the insurance industry, including but not limited to:

  • Microsoft .NET framework for insurance application development
  • Microsoft Azure App Service for hosting insurance-specific web applications
  • Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Databases for insurance data management and analytics
  • Azure DevOps for continuous integration and deployment in insurance software development
  • Azure Functions for insurance-specific serverless computing and event-driven applications
  • Azure Active Directory for identity and access management in insurance systems
  • Power Platform for low-code/no-code insurance application development and workflow automation
What Were Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within an IT organization, with a focus on software development, data management, and application architecture in the insurance or financial sectors.
  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft Azure, Microsoft technologies, and insurance-specific software solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing distributed teams, including onshore/offshore resources, vendor partners, and consultants, within insurance or financial contexts.
  • Deep understanding of insurance industry regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices related to software development, data management, and application lifecycle management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of building high-performing teams, driving organizational change, and delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic insurance or financial environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions tailored to insurance industry challenges.
  • Pragmatic approach to decision-making and problem-solving, with the ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities and constraints.
  • Experience leveraging generative AI, as well as structured and unstructured data analysis, to assist in business decision-making processes within the insurance or financial sectors.
