Job Summary

Provides expert knowledge in developing and maintaining interfaces in a healthcare environment. Designs, develops, and maintains interfaces for the clinic and research user community. 

Job Specific Duties

• Provides advanced knowledge in developing and maintaining interfaces in a healthcare environment. 
• Designs, develops, and maintains interfaces for the clinic and research user community. 
• Develops and maintains interfaces (HL7 and non-HL7) in a 24/7/365 environment for leading EHR application suites and with databases such as Oracle or MS SQL Server. 
• Develops web/cloud-based integration skill set. 
• Establishes moderate and advanced interface implementation strategies.
• Meets project timelines as specified by IT Management or Project Manager. 
• Provides thorough documentation of all interfaces used within the NCHS environment. 
• Uses Software Development Life Cycle methodology or other approaches supported by NCHS to ensure integrity of code.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (or) 5 years of equivalent experience
• 3-5 years of experience with interface engine and development tool kits
• 3-5 years of experience working with healthcare data and workflow analysis, process improvement, and integration support
• 1-3 years of work experience with SQL-type querying and/or bash/TCL/Cache scripting
• 1-3 years of work experience with engine upgrades/maintenance
• 1-3 years of work experience with SFTP, TCP, XML/NCPDP

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience with Cerner, Cerner FSI/ESI and/or Epic Bridges
• Thorough knowledge of HL7 standards
• Able to establish moderate and advanced interface implementation strategies
• Basic knowledge of communication protocols including TCP, SSH, ICMP
• Understanding of software development methodologies
• Working knowledge of engine application server/database environments
• Experience with NCPDP/XML or APIs or FHIR
• Experience with 2 or more commercial engines: Corepoint, Intersystems, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, Mirth, etc.
