Summary

This role provides leadership in the field ensuring safe and timely completion of work orders and supervision for workforce development participants while working alongside them off-site or on-site at Next Step. This position requires a professional disposition to interface with our customers while ensuring safety and efficiency for the team on the job. It is required that vehicles, tools, and other materials are maintained in excellent repair and secured each day. This role will also provide a daily verbal update to Supervisors regarding the performance of participants and the completion of all assigned work as well as written daily work documentation sheets. This role will be flexible, pivoting between the needs of the organization as required- primarily City Services but occasionally construction and manufacturing.

Field Supervisor Classification: Full-time, Hourly, Non-exempt

Reports to: Next Step Manufacturing / City Services Manager

Job Duties

  • Adhere to provided schedules and dispatch plans for work crews
  • Communicate daily or as needed with Supervisor regarding work quality, expectations, timeliness of jobs as well as reporting on the engagement of program participants
  • Daily documentation through written reports and before/after photos of job sites
  • Work alongside the team at worksites, contributing a full share of labor, whether at exterior worksites or in the production space
  • Shift between the needs of the organization across customers and departments as needed
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained: cleanliness, fuel, report of any issues
  • Ensure vehicles, tools, and materials are secured each day
  • Basic schedule is M-F 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, but may fluctuate based on organizational needs, including some weekends

Qualifications & Skills

  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record with no current points
  • Excellent communication and comprehension skills- verbal, listening and digital
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, able to instruct and guide others, positive leadership style, strong team building abilities
  • Competent in taking the initiative with good judgement- able to work with high productivity with little direct supervision or direction
  • Physically capable and up for the job – see below
  • Comfortable driving a pick-up truck and towing/backing up a trailer with a dump bed
  • Able to use and do basic maintenance on landscaping equipment such as weed whips, mowers, pole saw, trimmers and chainsaws
  • Comfortable dealing with a flat tire or vehicle break-down and making basic vehicle maintenance recommendations to a Supervisor / communicate with a repair shop
  • Considered a PLUS: Ability to drive a snow-plow, high-low or other heavy-duty equipment and Ability to use power tools in a woodshop environment and accurately read a tape measure

Working Conditions

  • Rugged conditions and terrains include alongside the highway, in forested areas, on hillsides, along rivers, in parks, parking lots and alleyways.
  • Labor to include cutting and loading branches, trash removal, hauling, demolition, power washing, lifting heavy objects up to 80 pounds, general yardwork
  • Regular standing, walking, climbing, crouching, bending, pushing, or pulling
  • Year-Around Outdoor work in the full range of Michigan temperature and weather conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
