Entry
Must be able to achieve many objectives of this position. Requires some amount of timely supervision to ensure the proper tasks are being accomplished and that communication is adequate, timely, in the correct manner (i.e., verbal, written, email, etc.)
Experience
Have >3 years of experience in HVAC automation. Must be able to consistently achieve all the objectives of this position. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. This individual also provides mentoring and direct day-to-day supervision to entry level positions as needed.
Lead
Expert in this position with >5 years of experience in HVAC automation. Advanced awareness of the technical needs of both the controls system programming, integration to other systems, and HVAC strategies. If working for the Special Systems division this individual has a deep understanding of the many systems installed and maintained within the division. A high level NICET or other certification is usually owned by this person. May lead others on very complex project tasks. Based on project needs, mentoring and direct supervision will be required.
Supervisor
In addition to senior level, this individual provides direct supervision to employees on a regular basis.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducts preventive maintenance, installation, commissioning, and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems)
Provide support for ongoing service engineering and support for existing building systems. Provide Controls or Special Systems database, graphics, programming, etc. for sequences as provided by Design Specialists, project specifications, or other sources as applicable
Debug installation issues during both the static and dynamic start up and commissioning of building controls and special systems
This requires a knowledge of HVAC control systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques
Works with minimal direction in the field
Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings
Communicates with customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site
Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems
Keeps customer informed on the nature of service provided, and outstanding issues and recommends system enhancement/upgrade/replacement
Trains customer in systems operations
Trains less experienced representatives and coordinates their work activity on multi-person jobs
Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists
Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's supported product lines
Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner. Design Controls or Special Systems projects to meet scope of work and budget as defined by contract documents and sales estimate
Ensure timely software backups are created for projects and software development
Coordinates with Material Coordinator to achieve maximum cash flow and material handling efficiency
Recommends technical solutions to sales and Assist Sales team during estimating phase and if necessary, demonstrate efficient EMS systems to new customers
Identifies areas of system performance improvements to owners and coordinates with sales to document, pursue, and sell them
Communicate with internal employees as required to ensure Next Level labor is accurate and timely and estimated productivity is achieved in all areas

Skills & Qualifications:
Proficient in any or all the following systems: Siemens, Johnson Controls F/X or Metasys, Honeywell, Tridium, Distech or Alerton – all highly preferred, but not required
3 years of experience within the HVAC controls or PLC industry – required
Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field
Degree may be offset by two years’ experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems
Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent inside and to customers as well as other outside contacts
Ability to explain technical information to non-technical people
Leadership skills to coordinate the activities of System Representatives on a job site
PC experience required and the ability to program software and understand software
Ability to pass background check and good driving record required
Essential Functions:
Be able to
Lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
Spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites
Climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site
Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per NXL’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a company vehicle
