Senior Power BI Developer

Job Summary:

Next Generation, Inc, a Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer for a long-term, full time hybrid position with 1 week on site in New York City. This position is to provide critical PowerBI support for LIRR Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) needs.

Job Responsibilities:

• Support LIRR Operational Analytics implementations from the initial business analysis, system requirements and system design functions.

• Study, analyze and understand business requirements in context to business intelligence.

• Design and map data models to shift raw data into meaningful insights.

• Design and create interactive and visually appealing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Power BI.

• Connect and integrate data from various sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, and cloud services, into Power BI datasets.

• Clean, transform, and model data to ensure it is suitable for reporting and analysis.

• Develop and maintain reports and dashboards that provide valuable insights and support data-driven decision-making.

• Optimize Power BI reports and queries for performance and responsiveness.

• Facilitate and lead requirements gathering workshops with the ability to identify and analyze business needs.

• Identify areas of system optimization based on business processes.

• Implement security measures to ensure data confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.

• Collaborate with business analysts, data engineers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.

• Create and maintain documentation for data models, report specifications, and best practices.

• Provide training and support to end-users to enable them to effectively use Power BI reports and dashboards.

• Develop strong data documentation about algorithms, parameters, models.

• Run DAX queries and functions in Power BI

• Identify the requirements and develop custom charts accordingly.

• Assist in implementation go-live and post-go-live activities.

• Support requests from users to research system problems or errors, and to assist in their resolution.

Job requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Business Analytics tools developing Reporting and Dashboards

• Minimum of 7 years in Reporting and Analytics using Power BI - M Query, DAX, Data Modelling, RLS

• Minimum of 5 years in database technologies and strong SQL query writing skills, (preferrable Oracle and SQL Server)

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certified preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.

• Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist, with strong proficiency in Power BI.

• Solid experience in SQL and working with relational databases.

• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to dissect large amounts of data.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively convey complex information.

• Experience in the transportation especially in railroad industry is a plus

• Experience of UX (user experience) design and tools

• Minimum of 1 year Python experience.

• Good communication skills to translate business requirements into Dashboards and Reporting

• Proficient in MS Office applications, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project

• Experience in desktop / mobile computer support and troubleshooting software related problems.

• Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skill in relating technical information to non-technical personnel.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment.

• Ability to independently set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, a self-starter.

• Excellent inter-personal skills including the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
