Physician Liaison - Metro Area - Day Shift

NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups (NYPMG) are part of the physician enterprise of NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic health care delivery systems affiliated with two world-renowned medical schools. Through primary care and multispecialty medical practices, the physicians and other health care professionals of NYPMG, in collaboration with Columbia Doctors and Weill Cornell Physicians, provide families with high quality, patient-centered care close to home in the New York metropolitan area.

The primary role of the Representative/Liaison, Physician Relations is to develop and maintain strong relationships with targeted physician/practice referral sources through consistent, strategic field call strategies. The objective of the work is to drive and sustain incremental volume in service lines and services in alignment with NYP and NYPMG’s growth strategies and business plans.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Initiate and maintain contact – using a mix of communications tools - with key referral sources identified through a data-driven targeting process for earning referrals to NYP.
  • Conduct scheduled face-to-face meetings with targeted physicians and practices to uncover needs then deliver relevant and useful information specific to each contact – ultimately building a trusting and reliable relationship with that referring source.
  • Develop new leads from external physicians visited in the community
  • Arrange and facilitate introductions of new specialists to targeted referral prospects to reinforce clinical expertise.
  • Facilitate attendance at educational programs and other opportunities/events to connect NYP and NYPMG specialists with the assigned physicians.
  • Communicate and escalate trends in service, communications and operations barriers expressed by referral sources that affect ability to develop relationships with referral sources and negatively impact ability to grow the organization’s image and its referrals.

Reporting:

  • Prepare reports, summarizing field activities, identifying trends, opportunities and barriers to new referrals.
  • Referral Development planning
  • Escalate the barriers found as they are encountered in field
  • Prepare Quarterly reports of highlighted field activity for Leadership
  • Present market trends, opportunities, barriers and other informative data at Regional Service Line Meetings or others as requested
  • Develop reports based on internal data of physician leakage and comprise action plans to review with leadership

Strategy and Growth Development:

  • In collaboration with system, regional hospital and medical group leadership, ensure plan objectives are in line with service lines targeted and ready for growth.
  • Incorporate market intelligence pertinent to new opportunities and relationships.
  • Work with Manager, Physician Relations, Marketing Team and subject matter leaders to develop targeted messages and marketing tools for the referral audience.
  • Bring forward new business opportunities that are revealed through field interactions and facilitate response jointly agreed upon by internal stakeholders.

Internal Interface and Coordination:

  • Meet regularly with system, regional hospital and medical group leadership to communicate trends and barriers
  • Attend regional service line meetings, sphere meetings and others as instructed by Leadership
  • Serve as a resource to organizational leaders for market and competitive intelligence and physician desires to support operational and clinical business planning.

This is a full-time day position Monday-Friday. Position requires majority of time in the field traveling to physician or medical offices within the metro area.

Required Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a business, marketing or healthcare focus
  • A minimum of three years of outside, field sales experience, preferably in physician/practice relationships
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare industry, including physician relationships
  • Possess creative thinking skills to navigate complicated situations with a strong ability to problem solve
  • Leadership skills that contribute to driving an exceptional experience for physicians and staff
  • Skills and experience in fostering credible relationships with prospects that result in effectively meeting their needs and meeting referral development goals

Preferred Criteria:

  • 1 - 2 years Hospital or healthcare environment
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral)
  • Willingness to accommodate physicians’ schedules, which may occasionally fall outside of standard office hours
  • Clinical-Practice experience

$104,500-$117,500/Annual
