Job Duties

To understand and observe all of Carroll Concrete Co./Newport Sand & Gravel Co., Inc.’s policies and procedures including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Training Manual, SAFE Policy, and Safety Manual.

Summary 

The duties of the Scale House Operator are essential to daily operations of all aggregate movement among ready-mix plants and customers. This position is the face of aggregate sales and is responsible for upholding an organized and professional appearance of the Scale House at Pike Hill. This position reports directly to the Aggregate Foreman. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

1. Subject expert on all aggregate types and explain the purpose and functionality of each, if necessary. 
2. Greet and direct customers, create tickets for customers and answer customer questions.
3. Performs gradations on materials daily
4. Maintains cleanliness of entire scale house with daily and weekly priorities to include sweeping the scale, mopping, cleaning the bathroom, wiping down surfaces and cleaning the windows. 
5. Complete all paperwork in its entirety and forward as applicable.
6. Must exercise discretion, as position requires the handling of confidential information.
7. When necessary, inform the Aggregate Foreman of all customer and employee concerns and complaints. 
8. Follow all MSHA specific regulations. 
9. Fully understand and follow the company's philosophy as it pertains to customers.
10. Foster a team building environment. 
11. Accident investigation and reports as necessary (vehicle and employee injury) notify the Aggregate Foreman and the Safety Director immediately. 

Desired Qualifications

• Education: 
  1. Associates Degree or High School Diploma and Equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge and Skills Required:

1. Must be dependable, team oriented, exceptional communicator, patient/calm, ethical, adaptable, understanding, professional, and be an independent/decision maker.
2. Must have common sense and good judgment.
3. Must have excellent reading (including map reading), writing and math skills.
4. Must have exceptional phone and computer operating skills (windows applications).
5. Must possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
6. Excellent math and organizational skills. 

• Experience: 
  1. Minimum of 5 years customer service experience with similar duties.
  2. Supervisor experience is preferred.

1. Work safely, wear proper personal protective equipment as necessary.

Licenses and Certification Requirements: 

1. Must have a valid Weighmaster’s License for the State of New Hampshire or test for and pass the Weighmaster licensing test (for the State of NH) date/time at Newport Sand & Gravel Co., Inc’s., discretion. 
2. Participate in annual MSHA training.

Restrictions:

1. Must be able to lift and/or maneuver 50 lbs. as required throughout the workday. 
2. Perform multiple tasks under stressful situations over long periods of time while maintaining proper composure.
3. Must be able to sit for long periods of time throughout the workday.
4. Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary.
5. Must be able to quickly adapt to changes and be capable of making decisions while under pressure.

Other Comments: 

Part of the Scale House Operator’s job will be “other” tasks/duties as assigned or as necessary.
