NewMarket Corporation is the parent company of Afton Chemical Corporation and Ethyl Corporation. Afton Chemical is one of the largest global suppliers of lubricant additives and offers a broad line of fuel additives worldwide. 

This data engineering position will require a collaborative leader skilled in building data pipelines, engineering complex data sets and querying databases utilizing tools for structured and unstructured data. Commitment to data integrity, the capability to solve highly analytical problems, and the ability to work on multiple projects at once are critical for this position.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, and test advanced data systems that integrate data from structured and unstructured sources using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) on-premises
• Design and Develop data pipelines in Azure using cloud services including Astronomer, Azure Data Factory, dbt, and Databricks

• Create data pipelines using industry standard practices and adhering to Data Governance policies to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality
• Capture and document technical information for data flows and database design
• Partner with multiple stakeholders including clients, new product development, data analysts to develop scalable solutions
• Support operations by identifying, researching and resolving performance and production issues
• Participate in requirements gathering and transforming business requirements into technical specifications

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or related field of study
• 3 years of experience working in a Data Engineering role or building and maintaining data solutions
• 2 years in-depth SQL experience
• 1 years hands-on experience in a cloud data environment
• Experience with data modeling and data design utilizing SDLC methodology

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

• Masters degree in computer science, software engineering or related field of study
• 5 years in-depth SQL experience
• 2 year experience with Microsoft Data Tools (Visual Studio, SSMS, SSIS)
• Hands-on experience working with Azure data tools (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks), Astronomer/Airflow, and/or data build tool (dbt)
• Automotive, chemistry/chemical, or petroleum additive related academic background or work experience
