Newberg SD 29J is Hiring a SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST 2024-2025 Near Newberg, OR

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for screening and testing of children referred for special services. Acts as a liaison/resource person for staff, parents, and the community. Assist building teams with threat assessments, pre-referral activities, and Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Plans. Meet to provide consultation to staff regarding student support programs and effective academic interventions. Meet with students to provide targeted interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of: Thorough knowledge of psycho-educational testing, counseling, and legal requirements of special education procedures and laws. 

Skills: Experience with administration of a variety of assessment instruments. Clear, concise, and professional written and oral communication skills.

Ability to: Ability to maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, staff, students, and parents.

EXPERIENCE:

Background in school testing services, special education procedures and group counseling.

EDUCATION: 

Completion of an approved program leading to licensure as a Psychologist in Oregon.

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

Oregon Psychologist License and/or TSPC School Psychologist License.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assess children who are referred for special education services and complete a report of findings.
  2. Provide inservice training to regular and special education teachers in the administration of the screening and testing program.
  3. Assist in the development of individual and group behavioral programs for students.
  4. Act as a resource in the development of all special programs for children with exceptional instructional needs.
  5. Act as a resource in the certification process for placement into special education programs.
  6. Represent the district, when appropriate, in the staffing of students into special education programs, working with the building Student Services Teams.
  7. Act as a resource in the out-of-district placement of students in special programs.
  8. Act as a resource to the district testing committee, alternative education program, early entry program, and early intervention.
  9. Work with the Director of Special Programs in interacting with the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee.
  10. Act as a resource in the development of specialized parent/student programs for discipline and study skills.
  11. Act as a resource for the development of programs for at-risk students.
  12. Complete functional behavior assessments and assist in the development of Behavior Intervention plans.
  13. Act as a resource to the Student Services Team regarding the threat assessment process.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Language Skills:  Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in an office environment. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Ability to drive to other program sites and meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.

CALENDAR/BENEFITS:

8 hours per day; 190 day 2023-2024 contract starting in August 2024, start date TBD. Position includes 2 days for New Teacher In-Service prior to start date.

Salary range TBD once negotiations for 2024-2025 are complete ($46,642 - $95,909 2023-2024 Salary Range). Newberg Public Schools pays 6% PERS contribution, provides a generous insurance cap, long-term disability, and life insurance. Optional Life, AD&D insurance, Short Term Disability, Tax Shelter Annuities, Section 125 health and dependent care accounts, Tuition Reimbursement, Professional Development and Employee Assistance Program through Uprise Behavioral Health available to all staff. Coaching opportunities are also available.
