JOB SUMMARY

Supervises the activities of the district Risk Management/Custodial Supervisor and oversees services, including building alterations and grounds, to ensure that all district facilities and equipment function properly, meet the needs of educational activities and programs, and remain in sound operating condition. Ensures a safe, functional, clean, hygienic, and cost-effective environment for students and staff. The Coordinator of Operations and Safety will oversee safety and emergency preparedness throughout the district. They will work in partnership with local emergency responders to develop and implement a comprehensive safety program. This program will establish a safe and positive school climate for staff and students. The Coordinator will also over district operations in various roles as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Previous K-12 administrator experience.

Education: An adminstrator's license approved by TSPC. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Responsible to organize all state and district required safety training for all staff.
    2. Establish emergency preparedness procedures and train staff and students. Ensure that buildings practice this training during monthly drills.
    3. Ensure that all buildings have a site safety plan that address a multi-hazard approach.
    4. Continually evaluate the safety of our buildings to ensure the district is providing a safe environment for staff and students.
    5. Work to make sure building safety issues are addressed to ensure that schools provide a safe working and learning environment.
    6. Work with city and county agencies to establish partnerships to address safety and emergency preparedness.
    7. Attend trainings on school safety to ensure the district is implementing best practices.
    8. Establish a successful Environmental Safety Program including asbestos management, water quality, and indoor air quality.
    9. Responsible to organize trainings for staff in First Aid/CPR/AED.
    10. Plans, directs, and supervises district Risk Management/Custodial Supervisor to ensure a safe, functional, clean, hygenic, and cost-effective environment for students and staff.
    11. Recommends contracts for work performed by outside contractors and inspects work performed under contract.
    12. Manage district interactions with transportation.
    13. Coordinates daily operations to improve services, makes changes in schedules and priorities as needed to improve efficiency.
    14. Prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for maintenance projects, including building and grounds projects.
    15. Ensures compliance with policies, laws, and standards relative to program area.
    16. Investigates problems and complaints and resolves matters within scope of authority; identifies potential problems and recommends solutions; responds to emergency situations as needed
    17. Assists in the budget development process.
    18. Works cooperatively with licensed and non-licensed staff
    19. Interviews, recommends hiring and termination of maintenance and custodial department personnel.
    20. Supervises and evaluates maintenance department staff; participates in the scheduling and assigning of work; provides training and ensures proper safety practices are followed.
    21. Provides input to the facility planning process and works to maintain a quality interface with the department and at all sites.
    22. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or the Superintendent as appropriate to the position.
    23. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one, and small and large group situations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technology Skills:Capacity to utilize computers to retrieve and send e-mail; access information on the internet; use district adopted software for word processing and spread sheets; ability to retrieve, compose and assign work orders, schedule facilities, and log or track expenditures on the district computerized maintenance management system; and ability to adjust hours of facility operation on the district building automation system.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee may frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Works in a school environment. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings. Work may require the use of ladders, a wide variety of machinery and equipment as well as various chemicals.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month period with vacation time as established. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with board policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.

CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:

Full-Time,Regular Position at the Physical Plant.

CALENDAR/BENEFITS:

40 hours per week,260 days per year, with a July 1, 2024 start date. 

Salary according to the Administrative I salary schedule, $122,617 - $131,078.

Newberg School District pays 6% PERS contribution provides a generous insurance cap and long-term disability insurance.
