Description

The 78th District Court Judge is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the District Court Administrator's position. In conjunction with the District Judge, the DC Administrator is responsible for the effective management and administering of Court budgets, objectives, policies, and procedures, overseeing and directing employees, and ensuring Court operations are in compliance with established policies, regulations and Michigan Law. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership skills and have a number of years of experience managing in an office or court/legal environment. While having experience with court operations is preferred, it is not a must as on-the-job training will provide familiarity with court procedures and policies.

Examples of Duties

  • Ensures Court personnel contribute to effective scheduling of court matters and efficient and timely processing of case files, bonds, fines and fees. Ensures assigned staff complies with established policies and procedures related to recordkeeping and collection and distribution of fines and fees.
  • Develops, secures approval of and administers capital and operating budgets for District Court in cooperation with District Judge. Monitors approved budgets, tracks expenditures and disbursements, and initiates corrective actions necessary to resolve variances or discrepancies.
  • Promotes continuous improvement in quality and efficiency of services, and enhanced public trust and confidence, by revising and developing standards, investigating problems and concerns and implementing appropriate corrective actions, and providing effective direction and motivation to staff.
  • Serves as department liaison to various outside agencies which include County and State agencies.
  • Oversees jury utilization for the court, ensuring that adequate juror pools are available and jurors are summoned. This includes preparation of payment vouchers for witnesses, jurors, baliffs, interpreters, and all monthly billings, ensuring that all related activities, procedures and practices and in compliance with applicable statutes, court rules, accepted accounting practices, and financial controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in public, court or business administration or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Five to seven years of progressively more responsible, related experience with at least four years supervisory experience.


Any or all of the above may be substituted for commensurate experience and/or education or a combination therof.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a valid State of Michigan driver's license.
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon passing a background check and drug screening which includes marijuana.
