Newark Educators Community Charter School is Hiring an Academic Interventionist Near Newark, NJ

The Academic Interventionist is passionate about supporting the students who are at-risk for academic underperformance due to a variety of challenges so that they can succeed in the school’s rigorous academic program. Academic Interventionists facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing school approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress towards their academic goals.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Identifies students with substantial academic deficiencies by evaluation of available test and observational data, by consultation with staff members, and by recommendations made by other personnel.
  • Uses appropriate standardized test instruments, informal diagnostic tasks, and observations to assess the academic strengths and weaknesses of students referred for services.
  • Assesses, on a regular basis, the extent to which students have acquired the objectives set for them.
  • Develops instructional goals and specific instructional objectives for each student selected for Academic RTI.
  • Selects appropriate instructional materials and media to achieve the goals and objectives specified for each student under his or her care.
  • Works to achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning using board adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Prepares for instructional periods and shows evidence of preparation upon request of administrative and supervisory staff.
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director, Director of Curriculum or designee, properly groups students for remedial instruction after consideration of the learning style and level of academic functioning of each student.
  • Sets specific objectives in lesson preparation and lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.
  • Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age appropriate for the student or group of students, and that meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all pupils.
  • Monitors pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
  • Maintains records of pupil’s educational progress in class record books and/or board approved forms and summarizes these marks for reporting purposes.
  • Identifies pupil needs and provides instruction appropriate to those needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Budgets class time effectively.
  • Uses instructional technology proficiently in order to achieve specific goals and objectives set for students.
  • Devises written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking as well as the reproduction of facts.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss pupil progress.
  • Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
  • Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
  • Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through inservice education and other professional growth activities.
  • Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.
  • Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect supplies, equipment, material and facilities.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
  • Provide instructional coaching and curriculum support to teachers and students as needed under the direction of the Supervisor Instruction and Curriculum and Executive Director.
  • Coordinate evening events for parents and students outside of contract hours. At least one event should be conducted each quarter.
  • Create a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students observe the school’s core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education required.
  • Valid New Jersey Certification as an Elementary Teacher, Reading Specialist Certificate (ELA) / Content Area Endorsement
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

REPORTS TO & EVALUATED BY: Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Student Affairs

Employment Status: This is a full-time, ten month year, at-will position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,883.00 - $86,421.00 per year
