New York University is Hiring a Science Proposal and Content Writer Near New York, NY

Position Summary

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.

The Science Proposal and Content Writer supports the work of senior UDAR fundraisers by producing all types of persuasive fundraising communications related to NYU’s STEM enterprise. Working in the Institutional Engagement Unit, this position will be responsible for drafting proposals and other fundraising materials for leadership gifts and major individual and institutional donors/prospects for the UDAR Senior Vice President, Vice President, and the Provost’s Office. Support other UDAR Development Deans and Directors by drafting proposals and fundraising documents, including internal talking points and briefers for leadership gift-level prospects. Develop writing documents by gathering information from multiple sources such as UDAR fundraisers, NYU Senior Administrators, NYU faculty, as well as reliable external sources.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's DegreePreferred Education:Master's DegreeRequired Experience:5 years relevant experience in science journalism, fundraising, or grant writing and editing in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment or a combination of education and experiencePreferred Experience:Science journalism, fundraising, or grant writing

The ideal candidate will have experience working in an institution of higher learning and writing fundraising materials on a wide range of scientific disciplines

In addition, experience synthesizing complex information is desiredRequired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent writer and researcher, ability to handle multiple projects, ability to digest complex scientific information in diverse subject areas and translate the information and knowledge into effective fundraising documents

Must also be able to write in different voices and styles to most effectively engage different donors, while maintaining a consistent and authoritative NYU voice

Additionally, must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to manage multiple writing projects simultaneously

Must be able to manage iterative writing and editing processes with a range of NYU stakeholders

Discretion concerning sensitive and confidential donor information is requiredPreferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to work with all levels of employees across the University and be able to effectively cultivate relationships among various key constituencies

Must be able to work gracefully under pressure, be collegial, proactive, and a problem solver

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $90,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
