Overview:

The Office of State Senator Gustavo Rivera is seeking applicants for a Communications Fellow based at the Bronx District Office for a temporary full-time contract starting May 22, 2024 and concluding November 6, 2024.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills, including phone and computer capabilities (Microsoft Outlook and Google Suite) are required.
• Must be able to work cooperatively and professionally with diverse staff and communities.
• Seeking experience or demonstrated interest in government-related communications, including digital outreach and social media.
• Knowledge of NYC and State government and community affairs experience is a plus.
• Bi/multilingual ability is a plus, particularly Spanish.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with the communications team to prepare and execute strategies to elevate Senator Rivera’s work and priorities to his constituents and the media via digital outreach, including social media, email newsletters, and mail.
• Prepare press materials, write talking points and messaging, and execute social media and digital outreach for the Senator.
• Attend press conferences, coordinate with local NYC media outlets, colleagues, and advocates for press events, and monitor New York City and State media.
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure timely responses to press inquiries and other requests related to the Senator’s written and verbal messaging.

About NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera (SD-33)

State Senator Gustavo Rivera represents the 33rd Senate District in the Bronx, which includes the neighborhoods of Belmont, Fordham, Van Nest, East Tremont, Riverdale and Norwood. Since his election in 2010, Senator Gustavo has dedicated his efforts to change the way business is done in the legislature and to ensuring that the families of the 33rd Senate District have a voice in Albany.

In January 2019, Senator Rivera became the Chair of the New York State Senate’s Health Committee.
