The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is hiring a Park and Recreation Aide for Buck Pond Campground in Onchiota, NY. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age. Preference may be given to candidates 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.

Job Requirements/Duties

• This a customer service position, stationed at the registration in booth. Responsible for checking in customers, selling ice and fire wood , and renting boats. May be required to do other maintenance/cleaning in the campground as needed.
• Must have dependable transportation and be able to work assigned shifts. Must be punctual, reporting for work on time. Shift work may be required when assigned to booth areas or shower building cleaning.
• Should expect to work all weekends and holidays during period of employment.
• Must be able, where applicable, to do manual work in park such as picking up litter, raking, pushing lawnmowers, digging ditches, climbing roofs to sweep pine needles and leaves, and cleaning comfort stations, rest rooms and buildings. Extra physical work may be required such as aiding in removal of brush and or firewood and moving canoes and rowboats.
• Candidate must be willing and able to maintain cleanliness of public facilities including bathrooms and showers.
• Must be able to communicate with others and accept direction.
• Must be well groomed, wear appropriate attire, including closed toed shoes. Issued clothing must be kept clean and worn while on duty.
• Must be even tempered and capable of communicating with the public. Provides patrons with information regarding park facilities and use. Handles complaints or inquiries from park patrons regarding the quality of their experience, the cleanliness of facilities, noise from other facility users, and other related customer service issues.
• Must be able and willing to perform duties in the Campground Recycle Center, i.e. process refuse, deposit containers and recyclables in accordance with state, county and town laws.
• If assigned to booth: Must be able to handle and account for money and complete necessary Revenue Reports. Must be capable of operating a personal computer.
