New York Post is Hiring a News Reporter, California Near New York, NY

The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture, and Entertainment – with signature wit, irreverence, and authority averaging 90 million unique monthly viewers. Over the past 223 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television, and commerce.

The New York Post is looking for a Los Angeles based Reporter (Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm PST) to help expand our digital coverage. The right candidate will be an enterprising journalist who can find, report and write eye-catching exclusive stories from across California. We’re looking for a self-starter with a lot of drive, a brimming contact book and a keen eye for the angles which appeal to The Post’s ever-expanding readership.

The ideal candidate must be self-sufficient, full of ideas — the kind of person who’s willing to comb through lawsuits, knock on doors, work the phones, ask tough questions and do whatever else it takes to find and nail the story. They need a knack for spotting under-the-radar local stories which will appeal to a national audience, be able to provide on-the-scene reporting when big news breaks and write it all in The Post’s unique voice.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • At least five years of experience in a major breaking news operation

  • A sharp writer who can deliver clean, vibrant copy in the Post’s signature style

  • Experience working as part of a team to brainstorm, collate ideas and thoroughly report them

  • The ability to spot a potentially viral story or a compelling angle not covered by other publications and the ability to re-work a local story with a national angle

  • Must have strong news gathering skills and able to work in a digital-first environment

  • An understanding of how to navigate court documents, the inner workings of local authorities and how to simply explain complex issues

  • A strong roster of contacts and sources throughout LA and California

  • Bilingual English-Spanish speakers preferred

  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally and flexibility to work some nights and weekends as required.

Salary Range: $50,000 – $90,000

At The New York Post we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, our ranges reflect our good faith estimate to pay fairly as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate’s experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.

In addition to compensation, the company provides eligible employees a comprehensive and highly competitive benefits package, with a variety of physical health, retirement and savings, caregiving, emotional wellbeing, transportation, and other benefits, including “elective” benefits employees may select to best fit the needs and personal situations of our diverse workforce.

As an equal opportunity employer, the New York Post does not discriminate in hiring or the terms and conditions of employment because of an individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. The New York Post will consider the provision of reasonable accommodations to known physical or mental disabilities of otherwise qualified applicants to enable them to participate in our application process and to effectively perform the essential functions of the job, unless doing so would impose an undue financial or operational hardship.
