Responsibilities

• Counsel and advise program students on academic, personal, career and financial issues, and maintain counseling files and records. Track academic progress of currently enrolled students.
• Participate in the recruitment and selection of program students by visiting schools and community agencies, reviewing applications, communicating with applicants, and administering interview sessions.
• Serve as Advisor for Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE), supervise executive board and members, assist with the planning of events and induction ceremony, and maintain social networking page.
• Assist in organizing the HEOP Summer Program Orientation/Alumni Panel, End of Summer Program Celebration, HEOP Holiday Party, Chi Alpha Epsilon Induction Ceremony, Graduate Recognition Luncheon, and Student Advocacy Day.
• Assist the Director in the compilation of data for program administration including information for program reports and the grant proposal.
• Collaborate with various campus partners to provide social and career-related programming to HEOP students.
• Assist in the planning of bi-weekly group counseling sessions, and conduct group counseling sessions with first-year students
• Service to Institution: Attend and participate in NYIT events such as Preview Day, Open House and Commencement. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree; Preferred in counseling, student personnel administration, education, or related area in higher education.
• Minimum three to five years of counseling experience in higher education.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including students who are educationally underrepresented and economically disadvantaged.
• Experience creating and implementing programs for college students.
• Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with student information systems such as PeopleSoft.
