New York Film Academy is Hiring an Acting for Film Chair Near New York, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:

The New York Film Academy (NYFA) Department Chairs oversee departmental functions, including curricular development, course scheduling and faculty hiring.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

  • Manage and resolve student issues, monitoring students’ progress in conjunction with the Dean of Students, Registrar’s Office and respective departments.

  • Plan and oversee scheduling of courses for each program in their department.

  • Conduct and lead faculty meetings to discuss industry trends, curricular development and curriculum delivery, learning competencies, student performance, production and Thesis projects and semester course schedules.

  • Recruit & hire faculty: assess prospective applicants’ files, conduct interviews and mock classes to assess applicant’s ability to teach the course.

  • Review faculty performance and coordinate 360 peer reviews.

  • Oversee the course syllabi for each program, leading faculty in core groups to develop course objectives, assessments and lesson plans which reflect programmatic goals.

  • Liaise between faculty and administration, reporting departmental progress, issues and concerns to administration.

  • Review, revise and propose curricular changes and course offerings to Associate Dean for Institutional Accreditation and Dean of College for review.

  • Attend student graduations, showcases, screenings and readings.

  • Prepare departmental documents and reports and oversee the departmental records in order to comply with state & accreditation regulations.

  • Organize department’s participation in industry events, to extend outreach and visibility for both the department and institution.

  • Oversee and liaise between alumni organizations and the administration.

  • Teach an appropriate course load, as agreed upon each semester between the Chair and school directors.

  • Attend Mock Classes for potential instructors both in and out of your department; recruit students (in final semester(s) to attend as well.

  • Other duties as required and assigned by management.

  • Broad knowledge of the industry and professional experience related to their respective department.

  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the various constituencies of the Academy, alumni, media, and community at large.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative personnel, faculty, classified staff, students and the general public.

  • Ability to work independently and simultaneously on projects of varied complexity, carrying out each to its conclusion with a very high level of effectiveness.

  • Must possess ability to exercise group leadership skills, which emphasize collaboration, consensus building, conflict resolution, and problem solving.

  • Must possess ability and willingness to manage multiple priorities and projects.

  • Ability to hire and build an effective administrative team.

  • Ability to foster an innovative environment that attracts high-quality faculty, students, and staff by stimulating creativity, research, teaching, and learning.

  • Ability to identify opportunities and to convert challenges into innovative solutions and programs that will advance the future of the institution.

  • Ability to work in a highly demanding, multiple task environment, with changing priorities is key.

  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.

  • Leadership skills in strategic planning and fiscal planning and management.

  • Ethical/Honest - evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.

  • Service and Action oriented does what it takes to meet student expectations.

  • Collaborative enlists information from all sources to ensure the best solution to an issue.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree and relevant industry experience or Bachelor’s degree and substantial industry experience.

  • Student services experience in a university academic setting.

  • Supervisory experience in a people-oriented environment.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision.

  • Demonstrated record of success in working with students, faculty, colleagues, alumni, and community members.

  • Experience in higher education academic leadership and administration is preferred.

  • University-level teaching experience, a strong record of scholarship or creative activity, and a professional record.

  • Familiarity with NY OCUE (Office of College and University Evaluation) .

The following machines, tools, equipment and/or software are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. Actual machines, tools, equipment and/or software used will vary.

  • Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Reader, Power Point, Visio

  • Google Documents

  • FileMaker Pro.

  • Apple Hardware Products (i.e. Mac, etc.)

  • Database Management and Recordkeeping

ENVIRONMENTAL / ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:

The following environmental / atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.

  • Higher education setting.

  • Outdoor/Indoor Film Set setting.

  • Film Shoots.

  • Sit for long/high periods of time to perform various computer/administrative tasks.

  • Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment.

  • Verbally and effectively communicate utilizing face-to-face contact and telephones.

  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull documents/boxes weighing up to 10-20 lbs.

  • Some weekends may be required.

  • Variable work schedule will vary between the hours of 8:30am and 6:30pm, with the exception of graduation, industry events and other special events, which may occur in the evenings.

  • Travel as needed.
