The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) is the organization responsible for designing and building new public schools and managing the design, construction, and renovation of capital improvement projects in New York City’s more than 1200 school buildings. The SCA is dedicated to building and modernizing schools in a responsible, cost-effective manner while achieving the highest standards of excellence, safety, quality, and integrity.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Manager Operations, Community Relations who is the public face of the School Construction Authority for an assigned geography in New York City. Core responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including the Department of Education, local schools, community boards, community and parent advocacy groups, elected officials, UFT officials, and others to maximize understanding of and support for Authority projects.
Responsibilities include:
Serve as liaison for SCA in assigned geography, representing the Authority in meetings related to projects.
Collaborate across all SCA departments on all phases of projects, from design through construction.
Assist with UFT chapters, principals, neighbors, elected officials, & community groups to address concerns
Make regular visits to active construction sites.
Maintain relationships with elected officials and staff, Community Education Councils, Community Boards, civic associations, and neighborhood groups.
Assist with development/coordination of strategies for SCA to foster, maintain, and deepen relationships
Coordinate agency correspondence, including notice letters to neighbors & responses to elected officials.
Assist Communications Director with planning groundbreaking & project completion ceremonies.
Present at public hearings on new sites. Manage design presentations to the local community and elected officials. Brief and present to Community Education Councils on the Capital Plan and any amendments.
Problem-solving issues arising from external stakeholders, including elected officials and their staff, Community Education Councils, community organizations and associations as well as members of the Department of Education.
Must Submit Two Writing Samples Within the Past Six Months
Preferred Education/Experience: A minimum of 5 years of work experience in community or government relations, community organizing, urban planning or a related field. Excellent written and oral communication skills, an understanding of the importance of timely follow up, and attention to detail. Detail- and results-oriented and able to multitask various projects with competing deadlines. Must be able to work under pressure. Seasoned interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt messaging to a diverse audience of constituents to develop and maintain long-term relationships. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint. Strong dedication to teamwork. Evening work is occasionally required. Multilingual candidates are preferred.
Required Education/Experience: Baccalaureate degree plus six years of full time experience in project management, design, construction, operations, administration, architectural, or mechanical/plumbing estimation or a related field; four years must have been in a supervisory (supervision of subordinate employees) or management (manage a function, unit, or process) capacity; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Salary Range: $91,193.00 - $110,000
