7:00 A.M – 3:30 P.M

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Patient care Coordinator, the Assistant Head Nurse assigned to the Psychiatric division delegates responsibility to nursing personnel for direct/indirect care of patients on the basis of staff qualifications, competency and patient security levels as delegated by the Head Nurse or in the absence of the Head Nurse. Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing regimen provided to the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Related to the Nursing Process

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Determines the level of care required for each patient according to the Classification Criteria for Psychiatry Patients.
• Schedules and assigns nursing personnel to patient care according to their level of competency
• Completes an annual performance evaluation of assigned staff, according to policy.
• Plans and conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to promote open communication, team work, as well as updating the staff of currents, issues and information.
• Assumes leadership [role in managing emergency/crisis situations (i.e. choking, respiratory arrest cardiac arrest)

Minimum Qualifications

A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and

Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and

Six (6) months of experience as a registered nurse.
