Description
Position Summary
Under the direction of the District Vice President of Youth Development, the Youth Development Director of New World Reading Initiatives provides leadership and management of literacy enrichment, resources, and information to the community for the association. The Youth Development Director manages program participants and retention through the development and execution of the New World Reading Initiatives to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all participants. This is a grant funded position.

Job Responsibilities
  • Implement community literacy events and educational literacy workshops that utilize New Worlds Reading Initiative curriculum. Assist families in enrolling in New Worlds Reading Initiative to grow home libraries and provide access to literacy supports.
  • Analyze data, develop and analyze systems and processes to recognize growth, monitor attendance, review post-event data, and other required grant reporting.
  • Ensure proper implementation of schedules and procedures. Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensure all staff are current with required certifications.
  • Increase program participation through product knowledge and interactions with local school districts, community partners, and families. Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration.
  • Plan and execute literacy events and parent/child educational literacy workshops across the association and community. Promote New Worlds Reading Initiatives special events among the members and community.
  • Recruit, select, develop and retain volunteers for events. Manage part-time staff to help host the events. .Support a training plan for the staff team and positively improve the overall experience.
  • Collaborate with the District Vice President of Youth Development to plan and manage the New Worlds Reading Initiative budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines.
  • Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida.
  • All other duties assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Three or more year's related experience in Literacy, educational instructor, Library system and/or child care
  • Demonstrated experience with event planning/execution
  • Minimum 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of each program offered to members and program participants.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse populations and all levels of management, employees, volunteers, members, and community partners.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
  • Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have a valid Driver license. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee must be able to perform medium work.
  • May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding. Receives and follows detailed instructions.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind.
  • Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children's well-being. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
