The Direct Support Professional supports individuals who participate in the Acquired Brain Injury residential program. The Direct Support Professional is a positive team player that promotes a culture of inclusion and participation.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Eighteen years of age with a high school diploma or GED;

Or:

  1. Twenty-one years of age and have at least one year of experience as a direct-contact staff serving persons with disabilities
  2. Valid driver’s license, reliable operating transportation, and proof of auto insurance

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Experience working with brain injury population

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Residential Support Services/ Respite

  1. Assists and trains Participants in the upkeep of residences, including cleaning, laundry, and minor household maintenance
  2. Assists and trains Participants with personal care needs such as bathing, toileting, dressing, feeding, and grooming. Assists and trains Participants with meal planning, food preparation, and feeding. Assists and trains Participants with budgeting and shopping. Training and supports should be provided as indicated in the Individual Support Plan
  3. Prepares daily documentation including staff notes, financial logs, activity logs, menus, self-administration medication records, etc.
  4. Assists in the assessment of individual training needs, development and implementation of training objectives, and participating as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team that formulates and reviews the Individual Support Plan
  5. Provides transportation as needed
  6. Enhances Participant community integration by encouraging age-appropriate community activities
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Residential Coordinator or designee
  8. May perform tasks in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities programs

  1. Actively participate in corporate-wide initiatives
  2. Support and work within the mission and strategic plan of the organization
  3. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and standards

Teamwork

  1. Communicate in all directions in a manner that is positive, productive, and supportive of teamwork, innovation, and collaboration
  2. Create and maintain a Regional culture of inclusion focused on growth and improvement
  3. Work collaboratively with management teams to ensure quality service delivery
  4. Attend regular staff meetings
