New Roads Behavioral Health is Hiring a Day Shift Mentor Near Provo, UT

Job Purpose

Supervise clients and implement therapeutic community guidelines and boundaries. Serve as a positive role model. Participate in activities and group sessions. Conduct therapeutic community groups. Participate in off and on-campus recreational activities. Attend professional staffing, trainings, and meetings.

*This position is specifically hiring for day shift, 9am to 5pm, Monday thru Friday shifts*

Job Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 with a clean driving record
  • Pass a background check
  • Ability to manage high stress situations with professionalism
  • Pass a drug test
  • Organization skills, multitasking and time management skills
  • Ability to receive feedback and apply it

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of clients’ environment. Supervise clients primarily during waking hours.
  • Supervise, monitor, and participate in programmatic activities to ensure consistent therapeutic effect. Understand and employ level system, rules, terminology, and group dynamics.
  • Understand and consistently employ behavioral management techniques. Apply techniques for the prevention of therapeutic holding procedures, monitoring for sharps and contraband during room searches to ensure safe environment.
  • Transport clients to and/or from facility, appointments, recreational activities, etc.
  • Assist and encourage clients in the completion of therapeutic homework assignments.
  • Participate in professional staffing and meetings in order to communicate the progress of individual clients.
  • Carry out various responsibilities related to the recreational and activities of clients when assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Ensure unit cleanliness and positive hygiene practices through use of programmatic tools and monitors. Can operate and train others in use of unit cleaning equipment.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the program.
  • Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, administer medication to clients.
  • Assist clients in the shopping, recreation planning, and preparation process.
  • Keep track of clients’ day-to-day progress within the facility to report to clinical staff within daily shift notes.
  • Assists clients in learning life skills.
  • Ensuring clients safety and wellbeing through room and/or phone checks.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.

Training and experience:

One year of experience in working with young adult treatment and/or care giving settings preferred. Must possess a current certificate for CPR and first aid or willing to receive this training.

Knowledge Required:

Must demonstrate understanding of and ability to apply behavioral/psychological theory and principles, as well as treatment approaches for young adult psychopathology. Knowledge and experience in outdoor education/recreation desired.

Working Conditions

The primary work environment is the facility itself. Other environments include, but are not limited to: residential facility, gym, swimming pool, field of outdoor activities, etc.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.

Pay will start $15/hour and only after asuccessful 60-day probationary period with this employee have the ability to move to a salary position which includes benefits and PTO.
