SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the school Principal, the Reading/Writing Specialist uses both informal and standardized measures to diagnose the strengths and needs of individual students and/or groups of students. This position also teaches basic and developmental reading to students with IEPs so that they may construct meaning in reading.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Knowledge of district curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, district policies, and effective instructional practices.
  2. Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
  3. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives education.
  4. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
  5. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community.
  6. Ability to complete evaluations of academic achievement in conjunction with thorough review of RTI data to identify appropriate services for children with IEPs.
  7. Ability to provide consultation to classroom teachers, special education teachers and other staff.
  8. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Master's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university required.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years direct experience as Reading Specialist, or equivalent training and experience required.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Certified by the NH State Department of Education as a Reading Specialist (0037) required
WORK MONTHS: 10 (190 days)
