About New Mexico Military Institute:New Mexico Military Institute’s (NMMI) middle grades school, Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA), offers a unique curriculum incorporating immersive/intensive and hands-on learning experiences within a structured environment. A new school heading into its second year, IPA will extend its enrollment to include 6th and 7th grades in Fall 2024, with a total enrollment of approximately 90 students, and will add 8th grade in the following year.

Position The founding History and English teachers at IPA enjoy an extraordinary opportunity to develop a unique, mission-aligned curriculum. IPA emphasizes fundamental skills, including daily practice in reading and writing. History and English teachers are responsible for instruction in these core skills. The aligned sixth-grade curriculum investigates the history of the ancient world (Western and Eastern) alongside mythology, epic, and the hero's journey. The aligned seventh-grade curriculum continues world history to the Age of Revolution alongside literature with an emphasis on drama. All core faculty also participate in the development and delivery of immersive learning experiences. This is an exempt, 9-month, full-time position. Tasks:

· Co-lead the development of a mission-aligned program that emphasizes fundamental skills, with students reading full-length texts and writing multi-page essays and creative pieces

· Collaborate in the development and delivery of mission-aligned immersive, intensive, and/or interdisciplinary units.

· Teach a full load (normally five sections) of middle school classes, which in may include sections outside the core subject area.

· Other duties as assigned.

· Enthusiasm, energy, and resourcefulness to respond positively to the conditions of a start-up environment in the early years of school development.

Qualifications:

Required:

· Bachelor's degree with a concentration in History or related discipline or equivalent evidence of subject area knowledge.

· Teaching license or equivalent evidence of pedagogical knowledge.

· Two years of History teaching experience at the middle school level or equivalent evidence of ability.

Preferred:

· Master’s degree.
