This position directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for the Football Program. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletics competition and oversees the planning of the program activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall success, performance, and conduct of NMHU’s NCAA Division II Football program in the areas of academics, athletics, and student athlete conduct;
- Supervise, plan and coordinate the activities of the football program;
- Manages supplies and equipment allocated to the Football program;
- Advises and counsels student athletes regarding academic programs to ensure adequate progress towards a degree;
- Oversees student athlete conduct and discipline;
- Works closely with the Sports Information Director in regards to news releases and related media guides;
- Hire, manage, and evaluate the assistant coaching staff;
- Recruit student athletes in accordance with NCAA, RMAC, and NMHU rules and regulations;
- Promote and represent the Football program, the Athletics Department, and New Mexico Highlands University through marketing and public relations activities;
- Develop, coordinate, and execute fundraising activities;
- Manage all aspects of the financial operation of the football program;
- Maintains regular attendance;
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Associate Athletic Director.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field
Experience: 5 years of football coaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in any field
Experience: 3 years of successful collegiate Head Coaching
Special Conditions for Eligibility
Must complete NCAA Coaches Certification Curriculum within two weeks of employment;
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license. Selection of an out of state candidate will require possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment.

- Knowledge of NCAA student athlete academic eligibility requirements;
- Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
- Knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules;
- Knowledge of travel/lodging planning and scheduling;
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment;
- Organizing and coordinating skills;
- Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
