Your team is bigger than your department:
Escort patients to exam rooms. Obtain brief medical history and vital signs as indicated. Set up equipment as needed for medical procedure(s) and assist physician with procedure(s). May obtain blood specimens, urine specimens, assist with biopsies, and give medications as ordered by the physician. Perform urinalysis, urine HCG, strep screen, finger stick glucose, and other lab tests as required. May notify patients of laboratory results by telephone or mail as directed by provider. Respond to patient messages. Return telephone calls to patients. Phone, e-prescribe, or fax prescription refills to pharmacies.
Maintain patient’s medical record accurately: treat as a legal document, authenticate charts, signatures, initials, and titles. Check for proper year, name, date of birth, allergy stickers, and updated immunizations. Seek training as required in order to complete lab requisitions and referral forms and for proper billing codes
May schedule outside procedures for patients including blood work and radiologic exams. Assist in admitting patients to the hospital including obtaining prior authorization from insurance companies and notifying hospital of admission.
Keep exam rooms and common work areas clean, stocked, and well organized including keeping medications in stock. May maintain drug sample closet and discard expired medications as directed by supervisor. Place soiled gowns in laundry at the end of each scheduled shift.
Complies with all accrediting and auditing bodies the clinic and organization participates in, to include, but not limited to CLIA AND OSHA.
Responds effectively to incoming patient calls and communicates pertinent information to physician or designee to provide for continuity and optimal care.
May administer limited injections requested by a physician and supervised by a physician, registered nurse or physician assistant in accordance to established regulations.
Responsible for completing basic Medical Assistant competencies in addition to departmental specific competencies.
Assist providers with coverage as needed and assist in other departments as required by supervisor.
Communicates and listens effectively with internal and external customers; effectively understands instructions and shares knowledge.
