Community Education Coordinator

General Definition of Work
Performs difficult administrative work managing the day-to-day programs and activities of the Community Education Department, prepares budgets, develops and evaluates programs, recruits and hires staff and related work as apparent or assigned. Departmental oversight is exercised over all those assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the superintendent.

Essential Functions

  • Manages and oversees the District's Community Education activities and programs.
  • Prepares a master activities calendar; assists in coordinating gym, buildings, and athletic field use with the District Office and maintains the District's building use calendar.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and mentors staff members for Community Education activities and programs; hire all officials and workers for all events; completes evaluation forms and holds a conference with all supervised employees; submits expense requests for payment of officials and other workers to the District office.
  • Plans and develops courses, programs, and services for youth and adults; evaluates all Community Education activities and programs on an annual basis.
  • Prepares an annual budget and supervises equipment inventories; seeks out fundraising opportunities and applies for grants.
  • Assists in supervision at open houses, registration nights, and home activities.
  • Organizes and maintains concussion data and assists with concussion protocols.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of summer recreation and youth services.
  • Maintains Activities and Community Education website and data information systems.
  • Mediates issues and concerns that may arise with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and manages all PALS related activities and functions.
  • Communicates and interacts with City Councils and Townships.
  • Creates and coordinates community education advisory council and meetings.
  • Oversight and management of district marque.
  • Leadership and management of Adult Basic Education Program through the Glacial Lakes Consortium.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of handbooks, calendars and, scheduler; general knowledge of Minnesota Department of Education website, Minnesota Electronic Child Care PRO System.
  • Thorough knowledge of district software programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard office equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, students, parents, and elected officials.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and minimal experience in an administrative position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing and walking; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements
Community Education Director License preferred but not required
Valid driver's license.
