New Leaf Energy is seeking a Senior Development Engineer II to join our growing team Development Engineering team.

This position may be filled out of our Lowell, MA, Boston, MA, Latham, NY, Chicago, IL, or Oakland, CA offices. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and are free to work from the office or from home on other days.
About the Role

This is an outstanding opportunity for a driven candidate to help optimize our systems, develop standards, and mentor staff within the distributed generation and utility-scale markets at New Leaf Energy. We are looking for someone with leadership skills who can provide different perspectives on issues and support the development engineering needs of a successful development business. You will be supported by the internal engineering staff, including development, civil, structural, and electrical engineers, and will manage external engineering support for PV & ESS design. Candidates who don't meet the experience requirements are encouraged to apply and may be considered for an SDE I level.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Design projects according to New Leaf Energy Design Standards and understand and improve the functionality of company design tools;
  • Manage 25-30 complex projects across verticals (i.e. different regions and different technologies), and provide oversight for project work performed by DE I and DE IIs;
  • Anticipate challenges with complex projects and establish proactive approaches to address challenges or uncertainty;
  • Lead the improvement of development engineering tools and software to serve current and future business needs based on technical and business knowledge;
  • Support Development Engineer I and II team members to successfully navigate challenging projects through the effective use of software and tools;
  • Understand how business goals translate to development engineering goals, and work closely with Regional Technical Leads and Engineering Managers to ensure project work meets Regional Team goals;
  • Lead development engineering improvement initiatives that support company-wide strategy deployment efforts;
  • Be a mentor to less experienced team members, expanding their technical knowledge and business awareness, and supporting their professional development broadly.

Desired Qualifications

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes. If you’re unsure of whether you meet enough of the qualifications below but believe that your experience and skill set is a good match for this position, we invite you to apply!

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering;
  • 8 years of experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, or similar position, working with and leading engineering projects;
  • NABCEP Certification;
  • Utility-scale PV and/or ESS development (100 MW) experience a plus;
  • Knowledge of national electric and building codes;
  • Advanced understanding of system design and engineering concepts;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the design of multiple complex projects, coordinating the efforts of multiple stakeholders, including vendors, customers, utilities, permitting authorities, and professional engineers;
  • Advanced proficiency with industry software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVCase, PVSyst, PVBid, Salesforce, MS Office Suite);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excitement about growing along with a fast-paced, dynamic company; comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to build, experiment, and iterate when the path forward is undefined;
  • A passion for renewable energy, addressing the climate crisis, and accelerating the clean energy transformation.

Compensation

New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership. We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.

Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position is $121,960 – $137,440. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 20% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience. Our office locations in Lowell, Boston, Oakland, and Chicago all carry geography-based upward adjustments to the base pay range.

We value transparency and can share more during the interview process.
