New Leaf Energy, Inc. is Hiring a Civil Project Engineer II Near Boston, MA

New Leaf Energy is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II to join our expanding team in supporting our project development in New England.

In this role, you will work with a team of engineers, project developers, and engineering consultants to review, design, and permit prospective solar PV, wind, and energy storage projects. Our successful candidate will be relied on to balance due diligence efforts with project risks for the continued development of projects for New Leaf Energy. This position reports to the Vice President of Civil Engineering.

This position will be filled out of our Boston, MA or Lowell, MA office. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and are free to work from the office or from home on other days.

Position Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

The Civil Project Engineer II will work with a team of engineers, project developers, and engineering consultants to review, design, and permit prospective solar PV and energy storage projects. The successful candidate will be relied on to balance due diligence efforts with project risks for the continued development of projects for New Leaf Energy.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Site review, zoning/bylaws review, and outlining entitlement path;
  • Managing survey, environmental, and engineering sub-consultants as well as working with staff engineers;
  • Working with state agencies, towns, and other stakeholders, and presenting to planning/zoning boards, state, and federal agencies;
  • Assisting in the continued development of standard details, notes, and specifications;
  • Reviewing design drawings prepared by in-house or external designers.

Desired Qualifications:

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes.   • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with Massachusetts Civil P.E. license;
  • 6-12 years’ experience in site development, entitlement, environmental permitting (municipal, state, federal), and solar PV or energy storage experience;
  • Experience in cost estimation, site visits, reviewing engineering services contracts, and managing subconsultants;
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and HYDROCAD (or equivalent design tools) proficiency;
  • Ability to communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, engineers, regulatory officials, and consultants;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while being highly motivated, detailed, and organized;
  • For internal candidates, advanced understanding and commitment to the New Leaf Value Stream Map. External hires should have worked in a similar organization where procedures and SOPs were in place.

Compensation

New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership. We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.

Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position in the Boston location is $121,900-$140,810. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 20% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience.
