Position Summary: The Albert Dorman Honors College at New Jersey Institute ofTechnology (NJIT) seeks candidates to fill a University Lecturer position.Candidates are expected to teach introductory courses in undergraduate researchat the honors level (STS 205), and advanced courses in support of ourundergraduate honors tracks (City Leadership and Civic Engagement, MedicalHumanities, Global Studies, and Interdisciplinary Digital Studies). Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to create innovative, transdisciplinarycourse content and materials that include service-learning / community-basedlearning and undergraduate research. The candidate will foster existingcommunity partnerships and establish new ones to support service-learningopportunities in Newark, NJ, the region, and on campus.
TheAlbert Dorman Honors College recruits the most academically prepared studentsnationally, is a leader in undergraduate STEM research, with over 700 scholarsmajoring in every discipline offered at NJIT. All Dorman Scholars are requiredto provide sixty hours of community service annually, on- and off-campuscombined. ADHC fosters a "servant-leader" model that uses their technicaltraining for the good of society.
Essential Functions: Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate honors courses,create course content and materials incorporating civic engagement andundergraduate research for the Honors College. The candidate will createcommunity partnerships to further develop our service-learning opportunitiesand connect Dorman Scholars with those opportunities (in coordination with theAssociate Dean). The candidate will leadone or more sections of Honors First-Year Seminar, serve on college andcampus-wide committees as well as advise scholars in one or more honors tracks.
Prerequisite Qualifications: -Candidatesmust have demonstrated experience in designing and/ or leading service-learningcourses or projects with undergraduates.
- A demonstrated willingness to, orexperience with leading undergraduate research projects is also required.Strong written and oral presentation skills are required. A demonstratedcommitment to excellence in honors undergraduate education is required. Successfulcandidates must have an advanced degree in a field taught at NJIT whose workengages some aspect of science, technology, and society.
- Atthe university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may beexempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of theuniversity, an equivalent combination of education and experience specificallypreparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications: -Ph.D.preferred. Data visualization, digital humanities, or database experience ispreferred.
- Experience working with honors students and incorporatingundergraduates into the candidate's own research area is preferred.
