Position Summary: TheCenter for Solar-Terrestrial Research (CSTR) at the New Jersey Institute ofTechnology (NJIT) invites applications for up to five postdoctoral associatepositions in solar-terrestrial physics. Applicants should have experience inmagnetosphere, ionosphere, and/or aeronomy applied research. Experience in field-workor instrumentation is considered an asset.
Thesuccessful candidate(s) will work with spacecraft data and data collected byground-based instruments such as radars, magnetometers, auroral imagers, and/orGNSS receivers, to investigate the near-Earth solar-terrestrial plasmaenvironment. The successful applicant will also be expected to perform thetypical duties of a Postdoctoral Associate, including the conception,composition, and publication of original research, attending professionalconferences and workshops (which includes domestic and international travel),field instrument deployment/maintenance as needed, submitting proposals, andsupporting other CSTR projects.
Bytheir start date, successful candidate(s) should have obtained a Ph.D. in spacephysics, plasma physics, geophysics, upper atmospheric science/meteorology, orrelated fields. The appointment start date is flexible, however, earlier datesare preferred. The appointment is for two years, with a possible renewal basedon performance and funding resources. Benefits are competitive and salary willbe commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will work primarilywith Profs. Lindsay Goodwin, Hyomin Kim, and/or Gareth Perry. Applicants needto submit a curriculum vitae-including a list of publications, a briefstatement of research interests, and the contact information of three professional references. CSTR is an international leader in ground- and space-based solar andterrestrial physics, with interest in understanding the effects of the Sun onthe geospace environment. CSTR operates the Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO)and Owens Valley Solar Array (OVSA) in California, the Jeffer Observatory atJenny Jump State Forest in New Jersey, and also manages a large number ofinstruments at South Pole, McMurdo, Palmer Stations in the Antarctic, opticalinstrumentation across South America, and various systems across the globe.Such instrumentation and data resources enable scientific studies spanning fromthe Sun's surface, into the Sun's extended atmosphere, and onwards into theEarth's atmosphere. Prerequisite Qualifications: - Ph.D.in Space Physics or related field. Background in magnetospheric/ionospheric physics.Experience in data analysis using programming languages.
- At the university's discretion, the educationand experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate candemonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination ofeducation and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success inthe position.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experiencein spacecraft and/or ground instrument data analysis and interpretation ishighly desired. Experience in field-work or instrumentation is considered an asset.
