Description

About NJHA: The New Jersey Hospital Association is a not-for-profit trade organization committed to delivering support and services to the state’s hospitals, health systems and other healthcare providers. We share a collective goal of providing quality, affordable and accessible healthcare to the people of the Garden State.

Objective: Analyzes legislative and regulatory issues as they pertain to member interests; assesses political impact of these issues on the industry; attends legislative and regulatory hearings; prepares issue briefings; perform policy research on issues relevant to NJHA; and, produces written reports for members, the public and policymakers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists NJHA and its members in pursuing policies that aim to improve the health of the residents of New Jersey by serving as an advocate and thought leader to state policymakers and the public on health care issues.
  • Analyzes State and federal legislative, regulatory and policy issues to assess impact on hospitals and health systems in the State. Develops written reports as needed.
  • Attends legislative proceedings, regulatory hearings and other governmental meetings and prepares reports for NJHA staff and membership. Liaison with legislative and regulatory staff as directed.
  • Reviews legislative information for bill status ang amendments to legislation. Maintains NJHA legislative database, produces regulatory analysis, and drafts summaries of meetings.
  • Drafts reports for NJHA leadership team, the Policy Development Committee, Government Relations Officers Constituency Group, other internal NJHA meetings, NJHA members and other parties as directed.
  • Applies knowledge of issues moving forward in other states to the likelihood of initiatives moving forward in New Jersey through legislation and/or regulation.
  • Contributes content for the NJHA newsletter and website on legislative, political and regulatory developments.
  • Acts as a registered lobbyist on behalf of NJHA before state legislature, the Governor’s office, and various state regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Builds and develops effective working relationships with legislators, staff and other policy makers.
  • Attends fundraisers and other political events as directed by the Chief Government Relations Officer.
  • Assists in preparation of end-of-year publication on NJHA activities during the legislative session and frequent legislative updates.
  • Develops correspondence, position papers and issue briefs to be used in NJHA lobbying efforts as needed.
  • Attends Government Relations Officers Constituency Group and other internal NJHA meetings as directed.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual lobbying reports on NJHA Government Relations & Policy Department and assists additional NJHA staff subject to ELEC's regulation with filing the appropriate materials regarding NJHA's advocacy as required by the NJ Election Law Enforcement Commission.
  • Abides by the terms and conditions of the Confidentiality & Non-Disclosure Agreement.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists office staff in the daily operation of the department of Government Relations and Policy.
  • Participates in discussions among various departments to strategize on how to enhance membership value and maximize revenue.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications


Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferably in Public Health, Political Science or related work experience with 2-3 years in legislative/regulatory analysis, healthcare policy or campaign work; good writing and organizational skills. Individual should not pose a threat to the health or safety of self or others. Ability to travel to outside meetings.
