SALARY:
The salary range for this position is $47,065.28 to $74,187.38 for Schedule A, and $47,065.28 to $66,414.38 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.Judiciary employees hired prior to August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 20, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

Internal Advancement/Lateral Reassignment opportunity for the Mercer Vicinage
The Mercer Vicinage is seeking a highly motivated employee to fill the position of State Grand Jury Clerk/Judiciary Clerk 4 in their office of jury management to provide support in state grand jury. The selected candidate will report directly to the Jury Manager and will work primarily in serving state grand jurors, working independently to provide information and instructions to the public statewide related to serving in state grand jury, and assist during state grand jury empanelment.

REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Example of Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Answering phones
  • Data entry
  • Interacting with jurors
  • Juror check-in as well as online, in-person and phone support of potential jurors
  • Distributing forms and publications for court users
  • Explaining judiciary policies or procedures to jurors/potential jurors
  • Establishing and or maintaining record keeping and tracking spreadsheets
  • Answering questions posed by judges, the public, co-workers, subordinates and or supervisors
  • Entering jury information pertaining to juror qualification, attendance and state grand jury events into the Jury Management System, and process juror responses from the jury application
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office as well as required virtual platforms including Zoom and Teams and will be responsible for moderating virtual jury selections and coordination of in-person selections
  • Responsible for juror equipment onboarding, coordination of delivery of technological equipment to jurors, creating and distributing information on virtual selections and events and explaining how to actively participate in jury selection
  • Scanning and uploading documents into eCourts, and will liaise with case management offices, the ADA Coordinator, the court interpreter's office, and the Office of the Attorney General and performs other related duties as required

Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 4 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Judiciary Clerk 4 title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.
Experience Requirement: Three years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.

Supplemental Information

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
