New Hanover County is Hiring an Erosion Control Inspector Near Wilmington, NC

Position Information

This position is open until filled.
New Hanover County is seeking a detail oriented Erosion Control Inspector to monitor construction projects for compliance with New Hanover County's Sedimentation and Erosion Control Program and ensure compliance with various regulations and policies. Duties include consulting with developers and contractors concerning construction related issues; inspecting installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control measures, construction phasing, soil stabilization, drainage and stormwater installation and problems; preparing written reports on project compliance; performing clerical work as needed, assisting with reviewing plans and conducting preconstruction conferences with engineers, developers and contractors; and responding to complaints from County residents. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills as well as computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook sufficient to perform the duties of the job.

We review over 200 plans and plats, address over 300 drainage matters and design engineered solutions to address the needs within the unincorporated county and city. Hours:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.Salary Information:,Thehiring rangefor this position is$42,050 - $56,768. Salary will be determined based on qualifications. Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering Technology or related field and one (1) year of related construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
What will make your application stand out:
  • Experience using GIS and/or permit tracking software is a plus
Licenses/Certifications

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid NC Driver's License
  • Certified Erosion, Sediment and Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI), Certified Professional in Stormwater Quality (CPSWQ) or Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) certification are not required but preferred
