The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, New Hampshire Hospital has a full-time vacancy for a Nurse Coordinator.

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing/Patient Care Services, provides support, guidance, and consultation to Nursing staff 24 hours per day seven days per week. Engages in inter and intra-departmental collaboration to ensure continuity of patient care and consistent management practices. Practices within the scope and standards of the Department, Hospital and Regulatory Agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing, human services, psychology, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Five years' experience as a registered nurse in a health care facility or a related human service field working in the specialty area in which the vacancy exists. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification:

  1. Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire
  2. Current Certification in CPR
  3. Must be certified by the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying entity in Nursing Administration or a specialty consistent with the job accountabilities and appropriate to the institution or agency in which the vacancy exists.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the formulation and achievement of the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives for the Hospital and the Department of Nursing as demonstrated by active involvement and representation of the Department in the unit, departmental, hospital-wide and/or public meetings, programs, retreats, and committees designed or that purpose.
  • Manages and role models the delivery of nursing care through the unit-based supervisory role, the hospital-wide supervisory role and management of the hospital as the on-site “person-in-charge”, in collaboration with the Executive-on-call. In that role, identifies and communicates clinical and administrative concerns to unit staff, other nurse coordinators, physicians, executive-on-call, and other departments and, in emergency situations, initiates NH Hospital Emergency Preparedness Plan and Patient Care Services Continuity of Operations Plans.
  • Manages the maintenance of a therapeutic and caring environment, 24 hours per day, seven days per week by demonstrating and monitoring staff's adherence to the policies and standards of New Hampshire Hospital and the New Hampshire Hospital Department of Nursing.
  • Acts as a role model for professional leadership practice as evidenced by identifying opportunities to apply skills of critical thinking, conflict resolution, strategic planning, and mentoring and sustaining/expanding relevant, current knowledge base through participation in ongoing professional development programs.
  • Contributes to the continuity and enrichment of the Department by recruiting, interviewing, hiring nursing staff and managing their professional development through monitoring and evaluation of competent practice and provision of necessary resources/disciplinary action to sustain/enrich practice.
  • Contributes to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of fiscally responsible staffing strategies that enhance patient outcomes.
  • Manages automated staffing systems and electronic mail account administration.
  • Provides staff training and expert consultation.
  • Contributes to the evaluation and implementation of hospital and nursing staffing systems software and relevant patient care applications.
  • Initiates, participates in and supports unit-based and hospital wide nursing research activities.
  • Acts as model liaison with community, family, and staff in accordance with the customer service values of the hospital.
  • Exhibits willingness to perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisors Workplace Safety Accountabilities

Manages compliance with established hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures by:

  • Maintaining competency in hospital approved Crisis Management Program (CMP) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques for adults, infants, children and AED training.
  • Completing competency-based review, when applicable.
  • Providing on the spot reinforcement/training on safety issues; referring staff to formal training programs, as appropriate.
  • Recording safety related initiatives for annual reporting.

Participates in the formulation of the mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives for the Department; supports same by acting as an agent of the Department through a positive leadership presence in unit based, departmental, hospital wide, or in public meetings/committees within the hospital to support.

Participates in the process of continuous quality improvement by supporting unit-based and professional development quality improvement activities; demonstrates commitment to customer service values in professional conduct and by promoting such values with co-workers.
