New Friends of Coos Bay is Hiring a Day Shift Medication Aide - New Friends of Coos Bay Near Coos Bay, OR

The Med Aide is one of the key employees in our Assisted Living and Residential Care Communities. This position has a high level of contact with residents. A staff member in this position must make sure a continuous stream of resident related information is being provided from the direct caregivers. Med Aide staff must be constantly alert to changes in resident health, attitude and need. They must be able to clearly and concisely transfer information in writing and follow it up to ensure proper action was taken. They must be creative to help the facility and staff adapt to the changing needs of the resident population. Med Aide staff are task delegated to perform additional nursing tasks and are assigned the responsibility of training staff to ensure a standardized approach to service delivery and a proper understanding of the principles of resident care by all care staff. Their primary role is to ensure excellent resident care by making recommendations to management concerning proper practices and care standards as well as assisting with training. They work under the supervision of the facility management and the RN / Director of Nursing Services. They must also be able to provide direct care to help residents maintain their highest level of independence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate with and relate well to the elder population.
  • Knowledge of proper transfer procedures and body mechanics.
  • Proper use of back belts, gate belts, transfer board and use of Hoyer lift.
  • General knowledge of oxygen tanks and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of documentation and record keeping procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret written procedures and directions.
  • Perform special tasks of nursing care when delegated by the RN/Director of Nursing..
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of weight and carry it 100 yards..
  • Ability to lift, bend, stretch, squat, stand and other movements to perform general caregiver functions and reach in confined spaces.
  • Manual dexterity adequate for care procedures
  • Knowledge of Pharmacology (Vitamin, narcotic, Anti-Biotic, ect.).
  • Read the medication sheet.
  • Set up medications.
  • Administer Medications.
  • Good observation skills/follow-ups.
  • Take directions well.
  • Knowledge of medication books and medication sheets.
  • Knowledge of self-medication programs.
  • Knowledge of the open life of medications.
  • Know 5R’s - RIGHT PATIENT, RIGHT MED, RIGHT DOSAGE, RIGHT TIME, and RIGHT ROUTE.
  • Knowledge of medical abbreviations.
  • Count and dispense Narcotics once delegated.
  • Understanding conditions and diagnosis.
  • General knowledge of diseases.
  • knowledge of behavior management.
  • Knowledge of CAD pumps.
  • knowledge of how to assign tasks.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Observe residents for skin breakdown, lack of appetite, health and behavior changes, foot and toenail problems, and report these and other concerns.
  • Immediately alert staff and facility management when a resident wanders inappropriately.
  • take vital signs: BP,TEMP, PULSE, AND RESPIRATION.
  • Assist with ADL’S as listed but not limited to the following
  • Bathing: stand by, partial assist, bed bath, jacuzzi
  • Oral hygiene: brushing teeth,m denture care, mouth washes
  • Hair care: shampooing, combing, shaving male and female
  • Toileting: bedside commode, urinal
  • Bowel and bladder: changing, intake-output, positioning of briefs, attends, depends, skin care.
  • Dressing: assisting, total, prosthetic devices, tedhose
  • Ambulation: Assist resident as indicated in service agreement
  • Emotional Support: good listening skills, non-judgemental
  • Peri-Care: cleaning
  • Hearing aid: putting in , replacing of batteries, cleaning
  • Nail care: clipping, filing toes and fingers - diabetics need to be task delegated

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or higher, two years as a direct care provider and one to three years in a supervisory role. Additionally, this individual must demonstrate leadership ability and have at least twelve months of related work experience with the company. The individual must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive the facility van.

Legal Requirements

Employees in this position must successfully pass all governmental and corporate required background investigations, such as, but not limited to, state required criminal history clearance investigations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
