Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at New Dawn Charter High School in New York City located in Jamaica, Queens, and Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn. The ideal candidate will be committed to ensuring that students with disabilities receive an education tailored to their individual needs while ensuring compliance with the New York City Department of Education's mandates and New York State regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Instruction & Individualized Learning

   • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address the unique learning needs of each student.
   • Deliver differentiated instruction that engages students and facilitates their understanding of content across various subjects.
   • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure the integration of special education students into the broader school environment.

2. Assessment & Reporting:

   • Continuously assess student progress using formal and informal assessment tools.
   • Update IEPs as necessary, based on data-driven instruction and student performance.
   • Collaborate with related service providers, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors to ensure holistic support for students.

3. Classroom & Behavioral Management:

   • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.
   • Implement behavior intervention plans and use proactive strategies to address student needs.
   • Communicate with parents and guardians regularly to keep them informed about student progress and school activities.

4. Professional Development & Collaboration:

   • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, both within the school and with the NYC Department of Education.
   • Work closely with other educators, attend team meetings, and share best practices to enhance the overall learning environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education.
• Familiarity with the regulations and mandates set by the NYC Department of Education.
• Experience working with students with a range of disabilities.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Proficiency in utilizing technology to enhance instruction and maintain records.
