Established in 2023, New Carrot Company, operating under the name Bolthouse Fresh Foods, is headquartered in the California Central Valley community of Bakersfield. Specializing in carrot production, the company caters to both retail and food service operations and is renowned for its Bolthouse Farms brand, widely distributed in major retailers across the United States and Canada.

Bolthouse Fresh Foods is a subsidiary of Butterfly Equity, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm with a specialty in the food sector. Butterfly Equity's expertise spans the entire food value chain, from 'seed to fork,' with a focus on agriculture & aquaculture, food & beverage products, food distribution, and foodservice. 

Bolthouse Fresh Foods has approximately 1,600 employees. 

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE 

The Payroll Specialist will support team with processing all payroll duties. This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor and interacts with all levels of the Corporation and outside agencies. 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 1,600 employees timely
  • Process manual checks as necessary for terminations, adjustments, etc.
  • Create documentation of departmental policies and procedures and ensure compliance. Update as necessary
  • Ensure data in spreadsheets for taxes, weekly payroll processing and evaluate for accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze information submitted for correctness and follow-up if appropriate personnel to validate 
  • Make recommendations to Payroll Supervisor to strengthen departmental controls 
  • Follow all procedures and controls set up by department to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance 
  • Provide a high level of service internal customers and outside agencies when required
  •  Process 401K transactions
  • Analyze and correct vacation and sick accruals when necessary
  • Process garnishments, tax levies, wage orders, child/spousal support are responded to and processed timely. Ensure all documentation is on file of case disputes
  • Work with HR on all pay related issues, including LOA’s, terminations, new hires, transfers, etc. 
  • Assist Payroll Supervisor with implementation of new processes, benefits, etc. as required by senior management, ADP, and/or HR
  • Work with ADP to set up new earnings and/or deduction codes ensuring that the setup includes the proper taxation and W-2 reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • 2-3 years of Payroll experience in a fast pace, large company-minimum of 1000 employees
  • Basic knowledge of Payroll and Federal State Tax regulations

Required Skills And Abilities: 

  • Excellent communication/interpersonal and problem solving skills 
  • Ability to interact with a diverse employee population and with internal/external customers in an effective, professional manner 
  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite and Excel
  • Knowledge of office administration and procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced, high pressure environment
  • Organization and attention to detail attributes
  • Maintain Confidentiality
  • Experience with automated timekeeping systems for 1000 employees, preferably UKG

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience with UKG timekeeping system 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Must be able to sit for an extended period of time during work period

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

  • 1s Shift (8:00am – 5:00pm) Monday through Friday, when business requires overtime and weekends will be mandatory
