New Braunfels, City of (TX) is Hiring a Planning Tech Intern Near New, TX

The Planning Tech - Intern will assist the Transportation and Capital Improvements Department Transportation Planning staff with technical support through assigned projects and tasks in a variety of Transportation Planning disciplines; tasks may include but are not limited to plan review and revisions, graphics support, inspections, inventory and listing of City infrastructure. This seasonal internship position is designed to be both educational and practical to introduce the rewarding career path of municipal transportation planning. 
 
The internship provides 480 work hours over a six-month period, with the potential of extending the internship for an additional internship period. The internship has flexible hours and workdays to accommodate students who are completing their studies. If a full-time position is available within the Transportation and Capital Improvements Department at the end of the internship period, consideration may be given to hiring the intern to fill the vacancy.The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
 
  • Sidewalk and ramp inspections to support the self-evaluation portion of the ADA Transition Plan.
  • Site visits targeting traffic issues and/or locations for small-scale infrastructure improvements.
  • Research of transportation related topics in support of the Multimodal Transportation Plan and Street Design Guide revision.
  • Research of transit related topics in support of the Transit Development Plan. 
  • Daily file management and processing of development applications including early stages of thoroughfare plan amendments.
  • Prepare Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
  • Assist with the day-to-day efficient operation of the Transportation and Capital Improvements Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s LicenseRequirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering, Construction Science, Geography, GIS or related field degree plan. 
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro, or
  • Proficient in Adobe suite (InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Basic Excel skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of City information, according to the standards of the Privacy Act of 1974, [5USC § 552A].
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City employees.
  • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting policies, plans, reports, memos, correspondence, and other documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully.
