OFFICIAL TITLE: Positive Youth Development CoordinatorWORKING TITLE: PYD CoordinatorMONTHS: 12 MonthsSUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: New Bedford High School is looking for a full-time Positive Youth Development Coordinator to connect NBHS students with learning experiences beyond the classroom and afterschool that support their interests, build leadership skills, create strong relationships, and positively contribute to the school and the community at large. This new position at the school will lead work that is critically important to our mission. We strive to ensure that all students are connected to an academic pathway and extracurricular opportunities. The Youth Development Coordinator will collaborate with advisors and program coordinators to plan and communicate opportunities for students throughout the school year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDSKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the New Bedford High School community and community at large Excellent organization and communication skillsCultural competency Advanced knowledge in navigating social media platforms Experience working with adolescents Investment in promoting school pride and spirit Effective management skills EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree and Masters degree preferred DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and implement comprehensive positive youth development programming that addresses the diverse needs and interests of students.Collaborate with school staff to integrate positive youth development principles into the curriculum, school culture, and extracurricular activities.Support activities during and after-school.Provide training and monitoring for staff involved in positive youth development programs and initiatives during and after-school.Establish partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and agencies to expand opportunities for students' personal and academic growth.Conduct needs assessments and program evaluations to measure the effectiveness of youth development initiatives and identify areas for improvement.Serve as a resource and advocate for students, promoting their voice, agency, and participation in school decision-making processes.Stay current on research, best practices, and trends in positive youth development and apply this knowledge to enhance program offerings.Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student participation, progress, and outcomes.Manage school promotional materials and update accordingly. Promote the vision for NBHSs youth development approach and why connecting youth to opportunities is so essential for social emotional and academic growthUnderstand the landscape of youth development organizations, programs and activities in the New Bedford area - whats available, gaps, etc.Identify additional partners and resources in order to provide a wider menu of options and engage more NBHS students.Promote youth development opportunities available at NBHS and in the community to students, families and staff.Help families connect to opportunities; for example, facilitate introductions, host PYD fairs, help with program enrollment, problem-solve barriers that might keep a student from participating (transportation, cost, child care or other responsibilities at home).Collaborate with teachers and other staff to identify students who would especially benefit from positive youth development experiences; for example, as part of a targeted student support strategy.Ensure resources dedicated to youth development programming are used effectively; for example, 21st Century Learning Community funds. Provide information to support grant reports.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary: subject to experience and negotiationSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.): Will need to attend evening meetings on occasion.OVERTIME ELIGIBLE: NOREPORTS TO: PrincipalThis is a non-union position.This description may change at any time
