New Bedford High School is Hiring a Content Instructional Leader- ELL (English Language Learners) Near New Bedford, MA

Job Goal:To ensure that each EL student in the district receives the richest educational experience the district can provide by exhibiting leadership in: the development, implementation and coordination of the ESL subject area curriculum; the improvement in the quality of ESL instruction; and the availability of appropriate ESL resources.Performance Responsibilities:1.Provides staff leadership in promoting the understanding of the educational objectives of the district and plans and administers professional development programs and activities for instructional personnel to meet these objectives.2.Ensures the high school complies with applicable federal and state laws and policies related to ELs and disseminates information from the state to educators/administrators at the high school.3.Ensures the proper identification of ELs and the proper instructional placement of ELs at the high school. 4.Coordinates the annual language proficiency testing, analyzes EL student data, and develops action plans to address areas of concern of ELs at the high school. 5.Ensures that parents are provided with information as required by federal and state regulations. Plans and conducts parent meetings, including parent advisory committee meetings.6.Coordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of ESL curriculum development, curriculum revision, new ESL & SEI program development and ESL & SEI professional development.7.Organizes and coordinates grade level and ESL departmental meetings, in order to ensure horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district.8.Interprets the SEI educational program and activities for the high school administration and staff, School Committee and the community.9.Informs the School Committee and the community of the ESL department’s special programs, activities and accomplishments through meetings and/or local media coverage. 10.Directs creation of and edits for publication, all approved ESL curriculum guides and materials prepared by and to be distributed among the instructional staff. 11.Secures and distributes ESL instructional resources such as multi-media instructional materials/technology, sample textbooks, and curriculum materials from publishers and vendors.12.Facilitates review of new ESL instructional materials and pedagogy. 13.Coordinates the selection of ESL textbooks for the district through use of faculty committees.14.Establishes a program for the ongoing evaluation of instruction and curriculum based on federal, state and local assessments.15.Evaluates and reviews the performance of all professional staff assigned to the ESL subject area in accordance with contractual and administrative procedures. 16.Works with building principals in the improvement of individual staff competencies.17.Assumes role of ESL Program Manager who coordinates and defends the development of those sections of the budget that pertain to assigned subject area in concert with the appropriate cost center managers. 18.Recruits, interviews, and recommends ESL applicant hirings. Trains and assigns instructional personnel in concert with appropriate building principals and the Superintendent's office. 19.Supports an ESL program of instructional orientation for new ESL teachers. 20.Initiates and maintains effective liaison with all schools for purposes of promoting integration of ESL instructional programs and articulating subject area curricula among and between the elementary and secondary schools. 21.Stays current with ESL best practices through participation in professional organizations and shares that knowledge with staff. 22.Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Executive Director of Educational Access and Pathways.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
