Background: The New American Association of Massachusetts (NAAM) is a non-profit organization that provides social support services to refugees and immigrants in northeastern Massachusetts. Core services include: ESOL classes, employment, case management, citizenship, youth programming, and more. NAAM’s Youth Program serves immigrant and refugee youth ages 0-24 through afterschool and summer programs, tutoring, mentoring, family engagement, and much more. We are currently hiring for a number of short-term positions for our Lynn summer youth program. Location: Lynn, Massachusetts Dates: July 8th to August 15thCompensation: $25-$30, commensurate to experience and licensure. Elementary SEI Classroom TeacherMonday-Wednesday mornings; optional Thursday field tripsThe Elementary Classroom Teacher will be responsible for planning and teaching a class of 12-15 elementary schoolers, with help from one or two teen teaching assistants. Classes should include: English language instruction, review of essential math and literacy skills, completions of summer reading assignments, and topical science or social studies projects. Teachers will also be expected to supervise the teen teaching assistant(s) assigned to them, and find ways to best incorporate them in the classroom. Elementary teachers or education students with classroom experience are encouraged to apply. Middle/High School ESL TeacherMonday-Wednesday afternoons; optional Thursday field tripsThe Middle/High School ESL Teacher will be responsible for planning and teaching English classes for small groups of newcomer students. Specific content will be tailored to the group of students, but classes should include practice in all four domains of language, basic literacy and numeracy skills, and an introduction to US classroom norms. Middle/High School ESL teachers or education students, especially those with experience with SLIFE, are strongly encouraged to apply. Middle/High School Math TeacherMonday-Wednesday afternoons; optional Thursday field tripsThe Middle/High School Academic Teacher will be responsible for planning and teaching math classes for small groups of students. Classes should review essential skills and integrate language learning into the curriculum.
