Job Description
Nevada State College (NSC) School of Nursing has one 12-month, non-tenure track, lecturer position available starting May 2022. This position is primarily dedicated to the on-ground prelicensure Bachelor of Science program. The successful applicant will hold a MSN; an unencumbered Nevada Registered Nurse license or ability to obtain prior to employment; at least three years of direct-care experience; and at least one year of either full- or part-time teaching experience in nursing.

We are seeking an outstanding nurse educator to work alongside dedicated faculty and staff in a highly collegial, interdisciplinary environment based on Caring Science. In the School of Nursing, Caring Science is infused throughout the curriculum and influences how faculty, staff, and students interact to achieve the institutional teaching mission. As a 12-month lecturer, your primary teaching assignment will be in the on-ground prelicensure program, which may include clinical, lab, and/or didactic instruction, based upon operational needs.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Teach 30 credits per academic year.
  • Teach upper-level courses in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online).
  • Serve on departmental and college-wide committees.
  • Conduct required weekly office hours.
  • Student advising.
  • Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Required Qualifications:
  • MSN from an institution accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education.
  • Three years of direct patient care experience.
  • One year of experience in nursing higher education.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduate nursing students.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in nursing at the college/university level.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, an unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Nevada.
  • Proof of creative activities consistent with a lecturer rank.
  • Commitment to creating an academic environment that supports students while holding them accountable for meeting minimum expectations.
  • Commitment to the promotion of Caring Science in every interaction with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.
  • Highly effective oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Nurse Educator
  • Experience as a nursing generalist, working with a wide variety of patients and diagnoses.
  • Two years of full-time experience teaching nursing at the BSN, or higher, degree level.
  • Previous experience with higher education nursing curriculum and/or course development.
  • Previous experience with accreditation (CCNE, CNEA, ACEN, or regional academic agencies).
  • Active participation in professional organizations.
Rank, Salary & Benefits:
Non-tenure track, 12-month full-time appointment. Budgeted salary for this position is $84,000. Nevada State College offers excellent benefits, including 15.50% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 11 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
