Principal Data Scientist - Product Engineering

NetWitness provides the unique ability to provide one single platform with a unified view across all attack surfaces including Network, Logs/SIEM, Endpoint and IoT combined with our AI-based User and Entity Behavioral Analysis (UEBA) and Security, Orchestration, Automation & Response (SOAR) capabilities.

The Principal Data Scientist will lead AI discovery, research, algorithmic solution design, and rapid prototyping of data science based threat detection and automated risk assessments. This role will work with Engineering and Architecture teams within Netwitness as well as work with customers and other customer facing team members to identify product requirements and translate them into effective AI based solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to combine Cyber Security domain knowledge with machine learning algorithms to help our customers stay safe in a rapidly evolving threat landscape that in itself is more and more driven by AI driven attacks.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develops and applies a broad range of techniques and theories from statistics, machine learning, and business intelligence to deliver actionable business insights to prospects and customers based on large-scale data
  • Works under little to no supervision with internal and external teams to understand customer requirements
  • Leads and performs end-to-end steps involved in model development, while establishing subject-matter expertise in key horizontal or vertical themes
  • Executes preliminary data exploration, data preparation steps and variable/algorithm selection as well as model development/validation and scoring
  • Independently develops and drives testing of algorithms efficacy for differing analytical use-cases
  • Delivers results and presentations in a timely manner
  • Leads definition of project use-cases, scope definition, and ongoing interaction with external customers to provide status updates and shares analytical insights
  • Leads the presentation of project outputs to external customers without assistance
  • Works with the academic and business community to develop new techniques and to contribute to research in the area of analytics on large databases
  • Generates new product requirements for the engineering group to enhance the analytics capabilities of the big data platform, in alignment with emerging subject-matter expertise
  • Serves as spokesperson on specialized projects and act as prime consultant on large projects and may be an informal team leader

Required Experience: 

  • Experience in applied machine learning
  • Experience in applying broad knowledge of ML/AI capabilities in cyber security use cases
  • Skilled in Programming language (Python, Java, R or Scala) and Large-scale training using data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with cloud environments including Azure, Google Cloud, etc.
  • Experienced with agile methodologies using project planning and tracking management tools e.g., JIRA
