Position Summary :

The Production Scheduling Supervisor is responsible for the complete cycle of material flow, from the purchase and control of raw materials, packaging to the planning, control, and scheduling of work in process and finished product through distribution to the customer.

Responsibilities :

  • Assists master scheduler in establishing sequence of production to fulfill all customer needs.
  • Reviews and approves weekly production schedule before being published.
  • Prepares detailed and comprehensive capacity studies and analysis as needed.
  • Monitors production capacity vs. available time to ensure customer orders will be met.
  • Reviews contract and branded customer forecasts and converts them into usable format for entry into MRP system and internal capacity planning.
  • Reviews and manages raw materials and finished goods inventories, service, and costs at third party storage facilities and internal facilities.
  • Analyzes finished products to determine the most efficient schedule and reduction of changeovers.
  • Reviews and approves Bills of Material for new finished good items and requests changes as necessary.
  • Attends and participates in weekly material expiration meeting to ensure disposition of items close to expiration.
  • Reviews excess, obsolete and slow-moving inventory to determine disposition monthly.
  • Serves as main customer contact for the Schaumburg plant for contract and branded items.
  • Submits requests for payment to key contacts at contract customers for unusable materials related to forecast reductions / cancellations, product discontinuation, obsolescence, or formula changes.
  • Reviews weekly, monthly and YTD case compliance reports and adjusts production as necessary to ensure customer needs are being met.
  • Reviews customer complaints and incident forms and forwards to appropriate personnel for resolution and follow up.
  • Analyzes test requests and new product formulations to determine material availability.
  • Attends and participates in pre and postproduction meetings for new items.
  • Arranges for return of non-compliant material to suppliers as needed.
  • Manages the department function and processes.
  • Manages department for compliance with established policies and objectives of the company and contributions in attaining objectives.
  • Oversees the work activities and professional training and development of 6 direct reports.
  • Works with Management to attain goals, carry out strategies, plans, and policies to increase profitability and success of the Company.
  • Enhances, implements, and enforces policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
  • Assists in developing and carrying out department’s goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Assists in creating department’s policies and procedures.
  • Assists in creating the department’s budget and works within established parameters.
  • Conducts interviews, appraisal performances, on boarding, and disciplinary meetings including terminations.
  • Approves payroll and amends Source Time errors for hourly employees.
  • Fills out appropriate paperwork, i.e. hiring, termination, replacement, performance evaluations, accident reports, vacation requests, and counseling forms.
  • Monitors employee’s adherence to company rules and policies and takes necessary corrective action if needed.
  • Reviewing and maintaining crewing levels and optimizing to meet or surpass cost targets.
  • Suggests ways to control labor and supply costs as well as improve processes.
  • Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participates in sensory training and evaluation to help ensure the highest quality of our products.
  • Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free workplace.
  • Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
  • Up to 10 % travel required.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Supply Chain Management or other related fields.
  • Five (5) years Materials Management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • APICS experience is preferred.

Skills and Experience :

  • Minimum of five (5) years Management experience.
  • Previous experience in a food facility preferred.
  • Ability to establish trust and credibility with employees.
  • Ability to influence and promote change on all levels of the organization.
  • Sound technical skills, logical ability, and strong problem analysis and resolutions skills.
  • A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and positioning of market trends that impact the food business.
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Ability to demonstrate discretion and business ethics.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to gather and analyze all types of data, identify the appropriate relationships between the different data, anticipate business directions and make fact-based decisions.
  • Prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as strong written and oral communications skills.
  • A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of diverse individuals within the plant and corporate environments.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP is Preferred.
