The EMS Lieutenant will continue to function and maintain all responsibilities as a field paramedic and is to respond to emergency calls and/or non-emergent, transfers and, in consultation with the physician or physician assistant, to determine and initiate appropriate emergency care required in the pre-hospital setting. He/ She will also aid the EMS Captain and or Director in maintaining the daily operations of the EMS department.
In addition to the below listed duties the EMS Lieutenant will also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
In the emergency room, the EMS Lieutenant will work within the scope of his/her Paramedic certification and as directed by the ER Director, PA, or physician, provide patient care, first aid, emergency care, and assist during exams and procedures.
The EMS Lieutenant performs limited duty in the hospital as time allows, such as patient transfers.
The EMS Lieutenant (paramedic) is responsible for a core set of competencies which can be applied in the field and Emergency Department settings.
Care is given in accordance with established standards and protocols, policies and procedures, and is consistent with applicable Federal, State regulations, and EMTALA regulations and professional ethics.
