Position Summary Information
Summary
The Maintenance Repair Worker reports to the Lead Maintenance Repair Worker or Assistant Director, Campus Operations. Responsibilities include performing a variety of tasks in maintenance of buildings and equipment. To include emergency situations related to campus operation, mechanical, electrical, weather or other as needed. Job category placement will be based on experience and skills in all facets of maintenance.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Replaces and maintains various HVAC equipment such as heating lines, thermostats, heaters, air conditioners, air handlers, centrifugal chillers and steam boilers; cleans and performs minor installation of same; adjusts and replaces belts on motors and other drive equipment as required.
2) Performs electrical work for the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical power systems, both inside and outside, building wiring, protective devices, breakers, switches, panels, fuses, controls, and related wiring devices
3) Replaces, repairs and maintains various plumbing equipment such as water and sewage lines, sinks, faucets, toilets, showers and pipes; performs minor installation of same; opens plugged drains; checks pipes for leaks; replaces, repairs and maintains pipe covering insulation; lubricates pumps and valves; and changes filters and motor couplers.
4) Performs chemical testing as required to maintain boiler and cooling equipment.
5) Paints fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs, equipment and furniture as required.
6) Performs routine replacement and maintenance of light bulbs, ballasts and fixtures; repairs extension cords and installs temporary wiring as required.
7) Performs custodial and grounds-keeping duties, as required; repairs food service and custodial equipment as required.
8) Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Degrees: High school diploma or equivalent required; Industrial Arts curriculum preferred; additional education in the trades preferred.
License: Valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license.
Experience:
  • Category 1: Basic knowledge and some experience in any of the below-mentioned trades.
  • Category 2:Some experience working with lower voltage electricity (house wiring), understanding of basic HVAC equipment, experience with house or light commercial plumbing and carpentry skills.
  • Category 3: Two or more years of skilled electrical, heating, air conditioning, plumbing and carpentry experience.

  • Ability to use basic mathematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of hand and power tools and welding equipment.
  • Physical dexterity and the ability to lift up to 70 pounds.

Must be able to utilize applicable tools and equipment necessary for the job, as well as basic office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, sit; talk; and hear. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
