NemoursCareerSite is Hiring a Specialty Nurse- Dental Near Wilmington, DE

Nemours is seeking a nurse with pediatric experience to be a key member of the Dentistry team. This individual will provide care and support during for children with complex medical needs and their families.

The Specialty Nurse is responsible for an area of specialized nursing practice and provides direct and indirect care to patients and their families in the inpatient, ambulatory, and outpatient settings. The specialty nurse utilizes the nursing process as a basis for providing and evaluating nursing care by applying knowledge of growth, development, pathophysiology, and family dynamics.

The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in pediatrics, monitoring patients post-procedure, and care of patients receiving moderate sedation. Candidate will need to become familiar with oral health care and interventions. Candidate will be responsible for patient education as it relates to dental health, hygiene, and treatments, clinic duties, office coverage (messages, calls, faxes) and potential inpatient responsibilities. Candidate will be able to effectively work with a large, multidisciplinary care team to care for children and their families.

Position is 40 hours per week, day shift office hours

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs appropriate assessment of patient/family in outpatient settings.​ 
  2. Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revision of interdisciplinary plan of care related to patient needs and underlying medical diagnoses.​ 
  3. Identifies patient/family need for further resources and initiates appropriate teaching and/or referrals. ​ 
  4. Participates in responding to patient phone calls, following delineated protocols and under the supervision of the provider.
  5. Explains oral health care to patient/family after having discussed with the provider.​ 
  6. Monitors patient flow including preparation of patients and rooms and keeps patients and families informed about delays.
  7. Assists with orientation and training of new assistant personnel.
  8. Demonstrates ability to share clinical knowledge with other members of the health care team; works collaboratively with Nursing Education Department to share subspecialty knowledge with nursing staff.​ 
  9. Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team.​ 
  10. Utilizes specialized body of knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to subspecialty in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and protocol.
  11. Participates in the development of standards of care for the specialty patient population.
  12. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages, neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults. 
  13. ​ Recognizes and identifies own learning needs and responsibility for continual development; strives to increase knowledge and identifies goals for professional growth.​ 
  14. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.​ 

Qualifications:

  • BSN required
  • Active Delaware (or compact state) Registered Nurse Licensure Required​ 
  • American Heart Association BLS required
  • 1-3 years pediatric experience preferred
