Neighborhood House is Hiring a Summer Youth Leader Near Louisville, KY

Overview

At Neighborhood House our mission is to provide individuals with opportunities to enhance the quality of their lives, and our vision is to break the cycle of poverty for our children and families. The Youth Leader encourages, inspires, and supports the personal development of youth ages 6-18. He/she develops and delivers programs and activities designed to empower young people to develop the confidence needed to take greater control of their lives.

Agency Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of Neighborhood House as evidenced by compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
  2. Provide leadership and positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
  3. Exhibits effective communication skills internally and externally including proper use of agency communication systems.
  4. Exhibits sound stewardship by effectively managing financial resources, information resources, and physical resources to achieve the objectives of Neighborhood House.
  5. Performs job duties (serves) in a way that supports Neighborhood House values Respect, Integrity, Service, and Education (R.I.S.E).

Essential Functions

  1. Develops leadership skills in young people by giving them responsibilities and holding them accountable.

  2. Maintains proper documentation of activities, behavior logs, attendance, program plans, reports, and other documents as required for Youth Leaders.
  3. Provides youth with a positive role model.
  4. Ensures program area is clean and organized during and after use. (Follows check list provided.)
  5. Actively demonstrates enthusiasm for accomplishing Neighborhood House program goals, assisting in program development, and objectively reviewing the program for possible improvements.
  6. Maintains building security and upholds member confidentiality as applicable.
  7. Participates in meetings and trainings as assigned.
  8. Youth Leaders may be assigned primarily to a specialized role within the youth program. The duties that apply specifically to each of those roles are attached as an addendum to this job description. Youth Leaders must be able and willing to fill in for all roles within the program as necessary.
  9. Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Youth Development.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma required. Some college preferred.
  2. Prior experience in youth programming strongly preferred.
  3. Strong team skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Good writing, verbal communication and computer skills.
  5. Ability to transport youth in agency vehicle preferred. (Must have valid driver's license and be 21 years of age.)
  6. Flexible schedule and ability to adjust to program changes as needed.
  7. Must be comfortable and open to working in a culturally and economically diverse environment.
  8. Ability to maintain control and order in a fast-paced environment.
